Tuesday, December 31st

Christmas break is over and hockey is finally back. Another battle between California rivals gives us our eighth round of the contest. I think the Sharks are the better team, but they lack consistency on the road. The Ducks have been excellent this season, but they can be streaky. I think Anaheim versus San Jose is going to be a great one.

Who will win this game?

I know I say this every week, but it’s still anyone’s game. You can conceivably enter the competition right now and still win the whole thing. Not a single competitor has gotten past the four-win plateau. With a $50 prize for second place, this is going to be a fun run.

The New Jersey Devils might be in trouble here, but call me crazy I believe in this team.  They’ve scratched to .500 and if they can win one more game they can really enjoy the holiday.  The Blackhawks are keeping the door open, too.

Chicago is coming off a loss, so I expect them to be motivated here.  However, they’re going with a backup goalie and, although it’s early, 99% of the public money is on the Blackhawks.  Vegas isn’t in the business of giving money away, so  ...

I wanted to wait for the stakes to be laid, and thanks to a miraculous 4th and 12 touchdown from Tony Romo, this game means nothing to the Philadelphia Eagles.  So, in effect, you have a must-win game for the Bears and a meaningless game for the Eagles.  The Bears also getting three points.  This seems too good to be true.

Sorry for the delay in this post. Hockey goes on a Christmas break from the 23rd to the 27th so there is no game to choose from on Tuesday. I don’t want to break up the routine we have going for the contest. Participation has been great and I want to stick to our Friday post for a Tuesday game system. Ottawa played a great game on Monday and they have looked sharp in just about every other contest this month haha. Their scoring is inconsistent, and I don’t think they’re going to finish the year in the hunt. Right now, they’re battling for .500

NFL Picks and Predictions, Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers – Sunday Night Football

The Cincinnati Bengals have a chance to take total control of the division, but this is exactly the type of game they’ve lost in the past.  Is it a new look Bengals team that is ready to emerge from a cluttered, mediocre division?  Will the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing the role of spoilers, win on their home field?

I look to the match ups here to determine who has an edge, and I like the defensive advantage the Bengals have.  Cincy started the year with one of the best fronts in football, but injuries have taken that away to some degree.  Still, you have to believe against the Steelers this defense has enough to get the job done.  Pittsburgh hasn’t had a running game in years, and a one dimensional offense is very beatable.

Z-Code agrees, giving an edge to the road team here.  The spread is tight  ...

Tuesday, December 17th

We have, as a group, failed to hit more than half these contest game picks. As a result, I’d have to say I’m doing a pretty good job picking interesting and difficult games. Hopefully, Tuesday will be no exception.

Who will win between the Sharks and Blues on Tuesday, December 17th? Sharks are one of the best teams in hockey, but they sometimes struggle on the road. Will the Blues’ defensive system give them fits? Can St. Louis score?

NHL Picks and Predictions: New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets (Competition Round Six)

Well, we can definitely pick ’em. It’s another coin flip game with coin flip odds for the sixth round of our competition. Two mediocre teams, which for me is more difficult to predict than two talented teams, do battle in Columbus. I’d say the Devils are the better team, but they’re on the road and I think that mitigates such an advantage. The Devils are coming off a big win, but the Blue Jackets have been more consistent lately. This should be a grind.

The Saints don’t lose in the dome. They’re a phenomenal, undefeated, fast, aggressive, consistent team at home. The crowd is loud and helps their defense overachieve, and the turf helps their style of play.

The Carolina Panthers are on fire, and a win here means a lot to a team that has put their slow start well behind them. These divisional rivals have everything on the line, but I question if Carolina can keep up.
