The MLB season is quickly approaching the All-Star break and divisional battles heat up in preparation for the second-half push. There several games on tap for July 4 with the Mets and Yankees battle for supremacy in New York.
New York Mets versus New York Yankees
The Mets enter play in first place in the NL East and the Yankees are struggling at fourth in the AL East. Neither team has been playing well lately. The Mets are “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +18 on the Power Ranking Indicator. This compares to “dead” status at +15 on the Power Ranking Indicator for the Yankees. The Scores Predictor has the Yankees at a 7-6 margin of victory with only 39 percent confidence. According to the Totals Predictor, the teams have been trending on opposite sides of the over/under line, making this not a very stable bet. The Mets have been a much better team, but the feeling is that the Yankees will rebound at home and win in a close game.
San Diego Padres versus Philadelphia Phillies
San Diego is third in the NL West but enters playing very well at “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +24 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Phillies have struggled, particularly in the bullpen. They are fourth in the NL East and are “average down” and +16 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Expect a high-scoring game with both teams trending “over” on the Totals Predictor. Also, the Phillies are picked to edge the Padres by an 8-7 score with 68 percent confidence. Bet the over and a Phillies win by a close margin, but check the line before betting to see if the Phillies will cover.
Chicago Cubs versus Cincinnati Reds
In this NL Central battle, the second-place Cubs face the fourth-place Reds. Both teams are playing their worst baseball. Chicago is “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and 0 on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Reds are “ice cold down” and +9 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Kyle Hendricks is scheduled to pitch for the Cubs and Wade Miley is set to take the ball for the Reds. Hendricks is 10-4 with a 3.98 ERA and +488 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Miley is 6-4 with a 3.09 ERA and -183 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. The Reds are predicted to win by a 9-3 score with 68 percent confidence, while the Totals Predictor indicates both teams trending “under” the line. Expect the Reds to win in a convincing manner.
Baltimore Orioles versus Los Angeles Angels
Although improving with “burning hot” status at the moment, the Orioles are last in the AL East while the Angels are fourth in the AL West. The Angels are “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and the Orioles have a +19 to +7 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Totals Predictor indicates a strong possibility of a high-scoring game with both teams trending “over” the line, while the Scores Predictor has the Orioles winning by a 7-4 score with 49 percent confidence. Baltimore is on the rise and I feel good about picking them in a road upset.
Boston Red Sox versus Oakland A’s
This AL East versus AL West battle features the first-place Red Sox and the second-place A’s. Boston has a +26 to +4 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Nick Pivetta is scheduled to start for the Red Sox versus James Kaprielian for teh A’s. Pivetta is 6-3 with a 4.43 ERA and +585 dollars on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Kaprielian is 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA and +36. The Totals Predictor shows the teams trending on opposite sides of the line, and the Scores Predictor gives the Red Sox a 6-3 win with 63 percent confidence. Boston is the hotter team and I will take the Red Sox to cover on the road.
