NFL Featured Game – Thursday Night Football: Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars; Can Andrew Luck repeat his performance?
Thursday Night Football is a controversial new scheduling wrinkle. Home teams tend to dominate the contest due to the short preparation week. In fact, the only road team to pull off a win on Thursday Night this year was the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers against an upstart Minnesota Vikings team. Who saw that coming?
Thursday Night Football is confusing, and as such this is always a low confidence pick. Tonight is particularly low confidence. In fact, we’re going to challenge the Z-Code computer here and as such we always recommend staying away.
I know injuries have hurt the Jags. I know their quarterback situation is appalling and their record surely shows it. I know the Colts are on fire. Andrew Luck is coming off a record-breaking weekend and Indy has the much better record.
Still, it’s impossible to ignore how distracted the Indianapolis Colts must be. Their coach has cancer, they’re playing on raw emotion, and they’re a volatile bunch.
So – although it is extremely rare for me to utilize trend analysis alone to make my prediction, THursday has a strong signal that the home team will outplay their capabilities. The Colts are coming off a grueling stretch and will be underprepared. They’ve got a short week to prepare and they’re on the road. They’re overachieving for their roster talent, and they’re volatile. I just cant trust Indy. Two decent defenses should keep this one close, and getting 3.5 is too much “value” for me to pass on.
That said, the computer has high confidence in the obvious pick of the Indianapolis Colts against the lowly Jags. Still, I’m nervous about the 4.5 stars with only 57% chance to win. Additionally, the oscillator gives a signal that the Colts may struggle – though it also suggests Jacksonville will continue to slump.
