NFL Picks Week 1: Packers versus Vikings headline action

The 2020 NFL season is set to kick off. Although games will be played with few, if any fans, football is back and Week 1 has several interesting match ups. We will explore five of those games with the Green Bay Packers against Minnesota Vikings featured.

Note that the information from the oscillators is based off the end of last season since no games have been played yet this season.

Green Bay Packers versus Minnesota Vikings

The Packers went 13-3 last season and won both meetings between the teams during the regular season. The Vikings had a 10-6 record in 2019 and enter the game as a 2.5-point home favorite with an over/under of 45.5. The Packers have a +31 to +23 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot down” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams have trended on opposite sides of the line according to the Totals Predictor, so it’s best to avoid betting the over/under in this one. The Vikings are favorites with odds of 1.690 to 2.736 and have a 53 percent chance of covering the spread. Go with the Vikings to edge out a win but the Packers to cover.

Seattle Seahawks versus Atlanta Falcons

Seattle had a 11-5 record last season and Atlanta was 7-9, but won their last four. The Seahawks won last year’s meeting by a 27-20 score and are a 1.5-point favorite in this one with an over/under or 49.5. Seattle has a +25 to +19 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, but the Falcons are “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Expect a defensive battle as both teams have been playing in games trending under the line, so betting under is a wise play. Seattle is the slight favorite with odds of 1.820 to 1.984 and Atlanta has a 53 percent chance of covering the spread.  Look for the Falcons come away with an opening week victory at home by a narrow margin.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers versus New Orleans Saints

The Saints posted a 13-3 record last season and won both meetings between the teams last season. Tampa Bay went 7-9 last year but added Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. The question is how much the two former Patriot legends have left to help the Buccaneers. The Saints come in favorites at 1.51 to 2.54 and have a 58 percent chance to cover the 3.5-point spread. The over/under is at 49.5 and the Totals Predictor indicate betting “over” is a smart play in this game.  New Orleans has a +27 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams come in “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Expect the Saints to come out and hand the Buccaneers and opening week loss.

Dallas Cowboys versus Los Angeles Rams

Dallas went a disappointing 8-8 last season and head to Los Angeles to take on a Rams’ team that went 9-7 in 2019. Dallas won in a 23-point blowout last year and enter a 2.5-point favorite with an over/under of 51.5. The Cowboys at 1.64 to 2.23 odds are given a 54 percent chance to cover the spread. The Rams have a +18 to +8 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams have trended on opposite sides of the over/under line according to the Totals Predictor, so best to avoid that in this one.  The Rams should have enough to reverse what happened in last year’s meeting.

Pittsburgh Steelers versus New York Giants

The two teams are meeting for the first time since 2016. The Steelers lost their last three in a disappointing 8-8 campaign last season. The Giants showed very little in a 4-12 season. Pittsburgh is a 1.45 to 2.685 odds favorite and have a +20 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator.  Neither team was trending well at the end of last season, at “average down” to “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Our system predicts the Steelers to win by a 29-14 margin with 85 percent chance of accuracy.  Best bet is to pick the “under” and for the Steelers to win convincingly.

NFL Super Bowl 2021 odds: Can the KC Chiefs win back to back Lombardi Trophies?

The NFL 2020 season kicks off on September 11th as the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs play the Houston Texans. The new season is going to be like one never seen before due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which means the Super Bowl 2021 is likely to be very different as well.

NFL training camps opened this week and teams are now preparing for the long, hard 16-game campaign. The Kansas Chiefs head into the new season with the top odds to win Super Bowl 2021, according to leading sportsbooks.

The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in last season’s showpiece game, 31-20. It capped off an incredible season as quarterback Patrick Mahomes laid down a marker as the best signal-caller in the NFL right now. The Chiefs could be in store for a similar period of dominance the New England Patriots enjoyed under the leadership of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Of course, it is too early to say the Chiefs are the new Pats, but if they can repeat their success from last year, then perhaps we can.

In July, the Chiefs tied Mahomes down to the largest contract in NFL history. The deal is a 10-year, $503 million contract. It isn’t just the largest NFL contract ever, but the biggest in all of sports. Mahomes’ contract will keep him in Kansas City until he is 34-years-old and his prime years will be spent as a Chief.

Will the NFL 2020 season even happen?

As you already know, the NFL preseason has been canceled this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is fear that the NFL 2020 season could be canceled as well. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has stated that the season shouldn’t be played. Beckham has claimed that NFL team owners don’t see us as humans”. Even with just a few weeks until the first snap, things seem to be up in the air.

Some players have already opted out of the upcoming NFL season. ESPN outlined some of the men that have already chosen to sit out the campaign. More could opt out of the season as well.

According to the Sporting News, there has been movement on fans attending games live in-stadium. Not all teams will have the same protocols. For example, the Arizona Cardinals will play behind closed doors for their first two home games of the season. In comparison, the Dallas Cowboys plan to host “some” fans for home games.

So, can any NFL team defeat the Chiefs and win Super Bowl 2021? Here is a look at the odds provided by leading sportsbook Bet365.
