NBA Playoff Picks September 5-6: Nuggets versus Clippers headline play

The NBA playoffs have reached the conference semi-finals and there are great games set for the weekend. Two match ups are scheduled for Saturday and two for Sunday with the Nuggets and Clippers highlighting the action.

September 5

Denver Nuggets versus Los Angeles Clippers

The Nuggets entered the series after taking down the Utah Jazz in seven, while the Clippers needed six games to overtake the Mavericks. The teams have split the four meetings this season.  This is as tight of a match up as possible. Both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams have been consistently performing according to their favorite/underdog status. Expect a high scoring contest since both teams have been participating in games trending “over” the line.  Bet the over and look for the Clippers to edge the Nuggets, perhaps needing overtime to do so.

Toronto Raptors versus Boston Celtics

Both teams entered play on a roll. The Raptors swept the Nets and the Celtics did likewise against the 76ers. The Celtics have the edge in the series and have won  five of the last six between the teams. Boston has a +28 to +26 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and are “burning hot” versus “average” status. The Totals Predictor indicates a defensive battle since both teams are playing in games trending “under” the line. The Team Volatility Oscillator shows the Raptors at +35 and the Celtics at +28, showing they have been consistent in accordance to their favorite/underdog status. Pick the “under” and the gut feeling is the Raptors will sneak out a win in this one.

September 6

Milwaukee Bucks versus Miami Heat

The Heat swept out the Pacers in the first round and are “burning hot”, while the Bucks needed five to take care of the Magic and are “average”. Milwaukee holds a +28 to +24 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, but the Heat have a 3-1 season series advantage over the Bucks. Milwaukee has been extremely consistent at +45 on the Team Volatility Oscillator compared to +28 for the Heat. Pick the “under” since both teams have been involved in games trending in that direction. Look for the Bucks to find a way to win to avoid going into a hole in the series.

Houston Rockets versus Los Angeles Lakers

The Rockets enter coming off a two-point win in game seven in the first round against the Oklahoma City Thunder.  The Lakers had an easier time in the first round, defeating the Portland Trailblazers in five game. Los Angeles has a +28 to +21 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  The best bet is to play the “under” as both teams have trended in that direction according to the Totals Predictor. The Lakers have performed more consistently according to their favorite/underdog status, coming in at +28 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Rockets took two of three meetings between the teams this season. Look for the Lakers to even the season series and go up in this Western Conference semifinal one game to none.
