NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks

The Vancouver Canucks have been a pleasant surprise this year. The addition of Ryan Miller has them back to a team anchored in goaltending that we’re used to seeing from the days of the Luongo-Schneider platoon. The offense is still fairly mediocre, but the chemistry is undeniably there. The defense has been serviceable, and the Canucks are beating teams they’re supposed to be beating, which isn’t always how NHL hockey goes. It’s been a good run for the Canucks.

The San Jose Sharks are also heating up, winning three of four against pretty good teams, with a tough loss to the Wild thrown in. At home, the Sharks are always a tough team to beat. At just 2-2 at home this year, they’re due for a hot streak. Last year they were 29-7-5 on home ice. The Shark Tank is a tough place to win on the road.

Further, I think the Sharks are simply the better team here. They’re playing good hockey, have more offensive firepower, and on home ice I think they will match up well with a Canucks team that lacks offensive depth. While Ryan Miller always frightens me, I think the Sharks are the play.

It’s a small wager, but it fits the system. We temper our wager because of how hot the Canucks are.
