Fighting Streaks
Recap: Yikes! A 1-0 loss is hard to swallow and an unfortunate home loss for Colorado. Minnesota was finally able to protect a lead in the third, it took everything they had as they were heavily and continuously out shot. This means we’ll keep trucking, only two games short of .500 and due for another different kind of streak. Streaks were a big part of the strong times we had, so if possible I say we try and use them for our next game. Also, keep an eye out for another multi game and even several game night. The league is putting out more games this time of year to work with, so it’s time to put them to use and up the record.
You may not have noticed, but a several of tonight’s games involve teams battling to escape bad streaks. Both Ottawa and Columbus are looking to avoid five game losing streaks. Columbus will be on the road against the Anaheim Ducks, another last place team. Some might say Columbus is more motivated and will see the Ducks as beatable. But Anaheim has been stacking on points with seven wins in the last ten games, compared to a measly two for Columbus.
Anaheim is also .500 at home and would love to take advantage of the wrinkled Jackets and climb out of the bottom upward towards Phoenix. Though I would favor Anaheim, the factors of this game are worn thin in comparison. The game we’ll jump on will be the New York Islanders versus the Ottawa Senators. The Senators are dead even in their last ten games, which is impressive considering a four game losing streak. Perhaps it’s more impressive than the Islanders winning record over the past ten. But the Islanders are also on a 1 game winning streak and looking for life.
The Senators should put on a great home effort to kill the bad streak where it stands. Their streaky offense is just the recipe to break the recent tear by Nabakov and the Islanders. It’s also proved well for us before when offensive teams like Toronto have found ways to break down the Isles.
