OCTOBER ASIAN SWING:
The Grand Slams are over for the year but the tour still has a lot of tournaments on its schedule. As many as 17 tournaments are to take place in the month of October as the tour will be moving towards the colder parts of the world such as Russia, Eastern Europe and finally Asia. In general we’re coming to very logical part of the year as all of the major matches will be taking place on hard courts, indoor and outdoor. We’ve already seen the players’ performance this year on these surfaces so we can have a really good idea of what will happen. We are actually beginning the month with an ATP 500 in Beijing, tournament which this year hold total pool of $3,944,715 just for men’s side of game. Djokovic will be defending his title there on the 4th occasion in a row, that’s after he won 5 out of last 6 years. Insane result if you ask me, he loves those courts. According to Rob Koenig, Singapore holds the fastest tennis courts on the tour, so the follow up ATP Masters 1000 tournament which will take place from the 11th of October, will feature some of the best tennis on the tour, will be hard to watch those matches though due to the time difference, I will try to accommodate some in-play sessions here and there. In general I believe we will be making majority of our money in the next months up until the end of the year.
On the ladies side we also have the Beijing WTA 500, this is where Sharapova triumphed last year, also a cool fact, In 2006, the China Open became the first tournament outside the United States to implement Hawk-Eye electronic line calling. Also, China Open pays for appearance fees so top players are sure to make a lot of money out of it regardless whether they win anything or not. As always, Williams is the favourite to win all of the tournemants, it’s a matter of fact of who is going to stop her just like she got stopped by the Italian Vinci at the US Open. Sharapova will be defending the titles but considering the fact that she wasn’t 100%, it’s interesting what we will see in the coming days!
