Another day of college football as the bowl season continues. I see one potential opportunity for us to improve our 3-2 bowl record.
Wednesday, Dec. 27
Independence Bowl
Florida State (-14.5) vs. Southern Miss | O/U: 49
Odell Haggins is the interim coach for Florida State and it appears the players will be motivated to play hard for him. Also, a win for FSU would help them avoid their first losing season since 1976. Despite that, I’m not sure FSU is good enough to be favored by more than two touchdowns against anyone, even a mediocre Southern Miss team. This game feels like an easy pass.

Pinstripe Bowl
Boston College vs. Iowa (-2.5) | O/U: 45
This game feels like it has potential to be a boring, low-scoring affair. Both offenses are run-first with decent running backs. Iowa defends against the run better but Boston College is in better form, having won 5 of their last 6 games. I think taking Boston College at +3 has value but at +2.5 this is a game I am passing on.

Foster Farms Bowl
Arizona (-3) vs. Purdue | O/U: 66
Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate is one of the most explosive young players in the country. He will be able to put points on the board for Arizona. The problem is their defense is not good and Purdue should be able to match them offensively. Also, Purdue has the motivation edge, playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2012. I think Tate might eventually turn the ball over and Purdue could sneak away with a win but this is a game I will be looking at taking the over instead of a side.

Texas Bowl
Texas vs. Missouri (-3) | O/U: 60.5
Missouri has the edge offensively with quarterback Drew Lock leading the way. Texas matches up well defensively although they will be missing a few key players either to injury or players sitting out to prepare for the NFL draft. This is actually an important game for both teams but I think Tom Herman and Texas will be a little more desperate to win this game in Houston. Let’s take Texas +3.
