NHL Pick of the day for January 19 by Ron.

Hot in the Desert!

Recap: Awesome win by the Ducks to put us over .500, “Quack, Quack, Quack.” The NHL thought Chicago was the blowout of the night until Anaheim came along. Anaheim gets the night off tonight, but maybe we can use our newly found knowledge for their next game. No time to worry about that tonight as we’re coming off two straight wins. You know what that means…going for the Turkey!

Tonight we give the NHL network game a well deserved night off. One of the toughest nights to choose a game of the night, with plenty of favorites, match ups with plenty of history, and chances for surprising upsets. With this type of board instead of taking a long shot underdog (Islanders) or goal spread lock (Blues) we’ll go with something semi-reliable for the money line. The match up at hand will be the Detroit Red Wings visiting the Phoenix Coyotes. It’ll also be fun to go for a Phoenix defeat two nights in a row.

For most games the rest factor won’t be too much of a concern. In fact we’ll eventually pick a team to win on back to back nights. In this case I can vouch that Detroit’s legs being rested or tired has a steady impact on the amount of pucks that find the back of the net. We also know that Phoenix is coming off a demoralizing loss. They will have more desire than actual will power with little time to practice since Anaheim. While the Wings aren’t the most reliable road team, the presence of Ty Conklin in net as of late points to an effort to be more than just a Joe Louis Arena competitor. Needless to say the goalie at rest is all star pick Jimmy Howard (chants Jim-my Ho-ward). To add to this some of the star Wings players are due. Pavel Datsyuk is goal-less in several games as is Nick Lidstrom. The recently hot players also had a day off to rest, like Todd Bertuzzi, whose age is a factor. Bertuzzi had 2 goals to lead Detroit narrowly over Chicago three games back. In their last effort Ian White totaled a whopping seven shots on goal, look for him to light the lamp once tonight. Also, some of the star Wings players like Pavel have a good history of stats in Phoenix. Currently a point off the conference and league lead, it’s surprising the Wings are a game out of .500 on the road. This is good news for us as they will be motivated to get over the hedge before the all star break.

Most important factor: The Wings are comfortable in the desert if no where else besides Mo-town. They swept Phoenix in the playoffs last year. Look for the Wings to find their legs after the first period and bundle goals from the top line. After a tight win in two of the last three, Detroit should be looking to air it out on the road.

In the last 10 games Detroit is 7-3-0 and Phoenix is 3-4-3.

Suggested play: Detroit Red Wings ML and -1.5 in a 2-1 ratio (totaling 1 or 1.5 units)
OR
Wings -.5 in regulation (60 mins)

Early summary: NHL Picks and Hockey Predictions for Saturday, January 7th

January 7 early summary.
What a day! So much action. Most games are 1.55 odd or worse which gives us hard time to find any value in taking sides.

Warning: EARLY GAMES TODAY!!!

Sharks game is not ready yet.

Zcode Trends (check back later for updates):

5 Star Road dogs:
3* Winnipeg Jets ML
1* Winnipeg Jets -1 spread
1* Team Total over 2.5

Tampa: maybe lets take Canadians Team total over 2.5 instead of tampa here.
(check later after input of our experts like Robert)
5* Canadians Team total over 2.5

Home Game winners:
3* Dallas Stars 4 stars -1 spread and no moneyline (odd is too low)
3* Dallas Team Total over 2.5 instead of moneyline bet

Fun bet ideas and I rated them with start confidence units:

3* Isles@Coyotes: Under 5.5  (Two weakest offenses in NHL)

3* COL @ Blues: Under 5.5
2* COL + 1 Spread

2* New Jersey Devils Moneyline
1* New Jersey Devils -1 spread

3* Canadians Team Total Over 2.5

2* Toronto Over 5.5
2* Detroit Team total over 2.5

4* Columbus Under 5.5
2* Columbus+1 Spread (Why not? LA can’t score, Columbus CAN and the odd for LA is ridicilously low)

3* Flyers Over 5.5
2* Flyers Team total over 2.5
2* Flyers-1 Spread

2* Bruins-1 Spread
2* Bruins Total Over 5.5

2* WILD Team total under 2.5

+ maybe something on sharks later.

The Flames vs Preds: The game of the year?

The Flames vs Preds: The game of the year?

Calgary Flames at Nashville Predators (NHL) Jan. 1th, 2012 6:00 PM EST

Only 1 game today and my wife is still sleeping so let me write a detailed opinion here to reveal my thinking process and philosophy.

Who else wakes up at 8 a.m on 1st January to analyse games and prepare predictions?

What I love about Zcode is that it is not a black box that throws out some numbers you can’t understand. It’s a fully transparent system that gives us a clear indication on what’s going on in a simple form of Statuses and percentages anyone can understand. Just by looking at the predictions and knowing nothing about hockey you can already pick the winner better than most “nhl experts” out there :) Of course we get our upsets and nothing is a “sure-win” but in a long run the results are coming fine.

Okay, enough lyrics lets get back to the action. The prediction for Preds :)

First I check the background:  Preds are coming out of two hard earned shootout wins while Calgary is playing really well lately but lost 2 times in a row.. The Preds are hot but they lack offense. They scored only 5 goals in the last 3 games. While Calgari has no problem scoring but lacks the defense. They blew 3-goal lead against Ottawa and “underestimated” Islanders.

What Zcode predicts: The system thinks it is a 3 star home favorite, obviously the status differential is not enough to give it more stars though the power rank differential is pretty high (6 and 20) and with a home field advantage the Preds can scratch some goals for a one more 2-1SO victory here over the Flames who have been drinking whole night :) far away from their wives and families.

What does “incredible Oscilator thinks”?  I LOVE our oscillator. It’s never good to base signals on it alone but in combination with Zcode statuses it’s really powerful.
http://zcodesystem.com/nhl_oscillator/?team1=Calgary&team2=Nashville

Oscillator agrees here – seems like the Preds are testing resistance and Calgari won’t hurt to lose one more time

Now lets check the goalies: Miikka Kiprusoff is Probable for CAL. He is solid with 2.40 GAA and .918 SV. If you have no clue what that means the smaller number goals you allow the better for you and your team :)   Pekka Rinne is probable for Preds. He is super solid as well 2.58 and .920  I see no goalie edge here and a possible low scoring tight game. Kiprusoff is 1-2-0 with a 1.36 goals-against average versus Nashville this season, and stopped 26 shots in a 1-0 home win over the Predators on Nov. 29.

Possible scenarios:
Preds win 2-1SO. Most likely a tight low scoring win.
Calgari wins 4-1. If Calgari can break through the defense and score more than 3 the Preds have no chance, they cant score. The only way they can win is to keep it low.
Or maybe that is all BS and the Preds will win 6-5 again ?

Ideas to bet: Honestly this game has no value and I used it only because there are no other games tonight and I wanted to show you how I am analysing games. However if you got a gun on your head and must be or die here then go Calgari+1 or PredsML small bet + Under 5.5. If you expect Preds to win you can add Calgari Team Total under 2.5 then.

Agree, disagree?

NHL Predictions by ZCodeSystem 30 December 2011

Today I am interested to see Capitals finally destroy the Sabres, Florida reply for the humiliation in a tight 2-1 game over Rangers, Ottawa to win 3-4OT over the tired Flames, Detroit to show a win of pride 4-3OT over the Hawks and the Preds to upset the Blues in a tight 3-2 Win.

Lets see how it goes and good luck to all! All games are of low confidence (below 4 stars) so it is more like a fun day for us.

Like many old school cappers are saying – betting around holidays can mess up all the results, so take it easy for a week and don’t risk too much. Things should get to normal in a week when the holiday travels and family distractions settle down.
