Now, let’s look at the first leg ties and the eight remaining teams.

Tuesday April 3

Sevilla vs. Bayern Munich

Make no bones about it, Bayern Munich got off with an easy draw against Sevilla. Sure, the Spanish team vanquished Manchester United in the last round, but the Red Devils were poor throughout the two matches. Bayern are one of the favorites to lift the cup. The Germans have an immense amount of talent from front to back. Led by the goal scoring exploits of Robert Lewandowski, Bayern should route Sevilla on its way to the semifinals.

Winner: Bayern Munich

Juventus vs. Real Madrid

This is a rematch of last year’s final when Real Madrid beat Juventus for the European Cup. Real Madrid have been resurgent since Christmas and star Cristiano Ronaldo is in great form. Juventus is typically difficult to breakdown in defense, especially when playing at home. However, Juventus is expected to be without five starters due to injuries and suspensions. A draw for Juventus would be good, but Real Madrid has just been too good of late.

Winner: Real Madrid

Wednesday April 4

Liverpool vs. Manchester City

Perhaps the most anticipated quarterfinal match-up. Liverpool and Manchester City have already played twice in the English Premier League this season, and those matches ended in offensive fireworks. The two sides scored 12 goals between them in both matches. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp knows that a good attack against Manchester City is better than sitting back and defending. Liverpool has the Premier League’s leading scorer Mohamed Salah and he is firing on all cylinders. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s attacking three of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have been nearly unstoppable. The teams split the Premier League season series one-one. This is a huge tie and one that will define the season for each.

Winner: Liverpool

Roma vs. Barcelona

Barcelona received a fortunate draw when Roma was selected as their quarterfinals opponents. Nothing against Roma, but the Italian team is not of the same quality of Barcelona. The good news for Roma is Barcelona was completely reliant on Lionel Messi to beat Chelsea in the previous round. So, all Roma must do is stop Messi, right? Well, it isn’t that easy. Messi is the best player in the world currently and stopping him is easier said than done. Barcelona does also have a host of great players and despite needing Messi to score or create goals in the last round, the team can go through even when the Argentine isn’t firing.

Winner: Barcelona
