The Premier League continues with a strong weekend of soccer with three matches taking place on Sunday February 4th and Monday February 5th. The weekend will be headlined by the late Sunday afternoon fixture between Liverpool and Tottenham. Both sides are battling for the top four and qualification into next season’s Champions League.
Premier League Predictions: February 4th and 5th
Crystal Palace vs. Newcastle United
The two sides are currently 13th and 14th in the Premier League respectively. Despite being mid-table, neither team is safe from Premier League relegation. The match between the two sides is the cliched six point fixture. Crystal Palace has completely turned their season around since hiring Roy Hodgson as manager in October. The club’s recent home performances have been good as the Eagles are undefeated in five of six matches at Selhurst Park.
Newcastle’s away form has been good, and the team has secured 11 points from a possible 36. It doesn’t sound great, but the Magpies have won two of their last three away fixtures. Neither team scores a lot of goals and they both concede them freely.
Liverpool vs. Tottenham
Tottenham go into Anfield after a massive midweek win over Manchester United. The win gives Tottenham hope of a top four finish. However, Spurs will need to get by an inconsistent Liverpool team. Liverpool also picked up all three points in midweek, but it came after two straight losses against teams Liverpool should have completely dominated.
This two sides are evenly matched. However, the big difference could be in defense. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has flip flopped between his goalkeepers this term. Simon Mignolet was the team’s first choice in the Premier League. However, Klopp has preferred Loris Karius of late. In addition, Liverpool’s defense has been incredibly shaky all year. The back line has thrown away leads on several occasions. Tottenham won the previous fixture between the two, 4-1.
Zcode System’s Scores Predictor has Liverpool coming out victorious, 3-0. But these teams are too evenly matched. This game will be close with Liverpool edging it at home
Watford vs. Chelsea
Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League after a shock midweek, 3-0, loss to lowly Bournemouth. The Blues were thoroughly outplayed when they shouldn’t have been. Manager Antonio Conte has just signed new striker Olivier Giroud, which will boost the team in front of goal.
Watford are four points ahead of the relegation zone and are winless in five of their last six matches. The Hornets made a managerial change in the middle of January, but are yet to see any wins since the change. Chelsea has not lost to Watford in their last six meetings, and hammered the Hornets 4-2 earlier this term. Chelsea need consistency. The team can win big one week and then suffer a shock loss the next. Giroud will be a big upgrade for the team. Striker Alvaro Morata may have scored 10 goals this term, but he hasn’t adapted well to life in London. Despite the shaky form of late, Chelsea should win this game.
