NHL Playoffs Picks: Chicago Blackhawks vs St. Louis Blues
I know the Chicago Blackhawks are always a trendy pick, what with their Stanley Cups and their playoff consistency, but this pick is more about the St. Louis Blues’ struggles than Chicago’s triumphs. The Blues just do not know how to win in the NHL playoffs.
I like the St. Louis Blues. I enjoy teams built in defense and goaltending, it reminds me of my own Devils. Still, the offensive shortcomings of a goalie-dominated league have led to the St. Louis Blues not being able to get over the hump. When the goaltending and defense on the other side is similarly strong, the Blues do not win.
The Chicago Blackhawks are vulnerable. I don’t think this is the most complete Blackhawks team we’ve seen in recent years. Still, they have some serious top-line talent and the chemistry continues to be there. I expect them to be formidable in the postseason again.
So, when I look at a matchup like this, I side with the winners through history. The core is there, and I think the Blackhawks will win at least one game here. I like the value on the road. So, like in our MLB picks, we launch an ABC progression where we just need the Hawks to not get swept. Since they’re the better team, I’m confident.
