NFL Week 9: Can the Rams remain undefeated?

Entering the halfway point of the NFL season and the top contenders are the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. The Rams have a tough match up against the Saints. Will they win to improve to 9-0? We’ll look at that and three other games around the league.

Los Angeles Rams versus New Orleans Saints

The Rams enter New Orleans coming off their toughest test of the season, a 29-27 win over the Packers.  The Saints were impressive on the road, taking down the Vikings by the score of 30-20. The Saints come in at one point favorites and hold a slim edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The VIP Picks section of the site gives the Saints a 52 percent chance of taking down the Rams. Los Angeles won the last meeting 26-20 a season ago. As dominant as the Rams have been this season, the underdog status tells me something. In a tight fought, high scoring battle, the Saints will edge the Rams late.

Atlanta Falcons versus Washington Redskins

After a 1-4 start, the Falcons have won their last two and can get back in the thick of things in the NFC South with a win over Washington. The Redskins took down the lowly Giants, in large part to veteran Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 149 yards and a 64 yard touchdown. Atlanta holds a large edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, although the Redskins are “burning hot” versus “ice cold up”. This is the first meeting between the teams since 2015. The VIP Picks gives Washington a 51 percent chance of winning. In what should be a close game, I will go with the underdog and look for the Falcons to win by a field goal.

Pittsburgh Steelers versus Baltimore Ravens

In this AFC North battle, the two teams are heading in opposite directions. After a 1-2-1 start the Steelers have rattled off three straight wins, while the Ravens have dropped their last two and are 4-4. Despite the recent play, the Ravens are a three point home favorite and took down the Steelers on September 30 by a 26-14 margin.  The Steelers have a +25 to +18 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and not surprisingly are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Ravens are “average down”. Baltimore is still tough on defense, giving up the fewest points per game in the league. Should the kicking game decide it, the edge goes to Justin Tucker and the Ravens. With the Steelers playing much better defensively of late, this could very well be a field goal battle. In that case, take the Ravens to win and cover.

Detroit Lions versus Minnesota Vikings

Detroit enters this NFC North battle at 3-4, losing on Sunday to Seattle. The Vikings are 4-3-1 and coming off a 30-20 home loss to the Saints. The Vikings are a 5.5 point favorite in this one and the teams split the two meetings last season.  Both teams are “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. According to the VIP Picks section of the site, the have a 56 percent chance of winning in what should be a close margin. I agree that Minnesota will win, but don’t be surprised if the Lions cover. Look for a field goal late to decide this one.
