NFL Picks: Broncos Lions, Sunday Night Football
I recognize that the Denver Broncos have not really been very impressive this year to start. Peyton Manning does not look sharp and he is struggling with the new offense. The defense has absolutely won their first two games. In fact, we lost our wager on the Kansas City Chiefs last week in horrifying fashion because of that incredible Broncos defense.
The Denver Broncos are struggling to run the ball. Although there is same backfield as last year, the platoon members have really struggled to get yards. The whole offense looks sloppy and out of place. Adding to their problems, Peyton Manning has not been able to open up the running game with the pass. As a result, this entire offense is awful. Fortunately, they go against a Detroit Lions defense that is among the worst in football. They have no pass rush after losing their two best DL, and the secondary is still atrocious. I cannot imagine a scenario where this bunch can slow down even a completely diminished Peyton Manning.
The Detroit Lions offense does have some balance this year. Two effective running backs, including an effective rookie, open up three weapons in the passing game in Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, and Eric Ebron. That said, I think the Denver Broncos defense matches up well here. I expect the pass rush to cause Stafford to struggle, and I expect Denver to control this lions team and force a few turnovers.
So, with no answer defensively for the balance of the Denver Broncos attack and explosiveness of their dynamic wide receivers, and with no guarantee that their offense will move the ball effectively again such a strong Broncos defense, I expect the Lions to continue to struggle. This line is full of value on a proven winner in Denver. The Lions may finish below 500. I’m taking Denver to win in prime time – with confidence – even though we are betting into a public money trap.
