Manchester City remain sportsbooks’ favorite for Premier League title

Twelve games have been played in the English Premier League season and despite eight points separating first and fifth place, leading sportsbooks have Manchester City as heavy favorites to win the title.

Manchester City are a whopping -400 to continue form and win the Premier League trophy. Pep Guardiola’s team has swatted nearly all opposing clubs to the side, winning 10 and drawing two games. The Cityzens haven’t just won, but they have destroyed opponents. Manchester City has scored three or more goals six times this season and the team has totalled a league-leading 36 goals while allowing a mere five.

One of the two teams to take points off of Manchester City is Liverpool. The Reds shut out Manchester City in a pulsating nil-nil game at Anfield. Liverpool hasn’t lost this season either as it has won nine and drawn three matches. All three draws have come against top opposition (Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal). Jurgen Klopp’s team is a fantastic +400 to win the Premier League. It is a great value, but Liverpool hasn’t won the league title since 1990 and the team isn’t scoring as freely as Manchester City. Liverpool must continue winning and hope other teams take points off of Manchester City.

The Longshots

Third place Chelsea are +2000 to win the league. The Blues are a great value, but maintaining a strong title push will be difficult. Maurizio Sarri is having a brilliant first year in charge of the team. But he doesn’t have the players at his disposal that Manchester City does. Still, Sarri has a team capable of surprising everyone. Chelsea host Manchester City on December 8th at Stamford Bridge. The game will have title implications. If the Blues win, the race could be blown wide open. A Manchester City win could limit the title race to just two horses.

Tottenham Hotspur is five points behind Manchester City, yet sportsbooks see those five points as nearly insurmountable. Spurs are +4000 to win the title while their London rivals Arsenal are +12500. What about 20-time league champions Manchester United? The Red Devils are +20000 to win the league following their recent 3-1 loss to Manchester City.

Who will be the Premier League’s top goalscorer?

The Premier League top goalscorer award is a popular betting market. Current leading scorer Sergio Aguero leads odds at +225. The Manchester City striker has already tallied eight league goals.

It is important to note that the top scorer doesn’t always play for the Premier League winners. The last five top goalscorer didn’t play for the league winners. Aguero last won the award in 2014-15 when he tallied 26 goals, but Manchester City failed to win the title.

Harry Kane, the winner in 2015-16 and 2016-17, is second in odds at +333. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who tallied 32 goals in 36 games and won the award last season, is third at +450.

While the trio are sportsbooks’ favorites, Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cannot be counted out. He has tallied seven goals after 12 games, second most in the Premier League. Aubameyang is a great value at +900.

Does any bettor have the guts to back Arsenal to win the league and Aubameyang to finish as top scorer?
