John and his 200 point profit Horse Racing System

1. Hello John! 200 units of profit! Great results! You are one of the first horse racing experts at Zcode. Together
with Gavin and Huang you are forming a strong horse racing school.
Tell us more about yourself please? What’s your story?

I am a 62yo Englishman.  However I spent most of my life in foreign parts.  University in South Africa, consulting in various countries and an extended (9year) stay in Japan, which I am still kicking myself for leaving.

I am currently living on a farm in Northern Romania.  Why? you may ask.  Well a  long story but essentially it is a great and beautiful area,  I breathe fresh air,  have low stress and it really is very low rent. I have collected a menagerie including 9 dogs and 6 cats,  myriads of fish plus farm animals.

My Major trouble is that I never allowed myself to recover properly from rugby injuries sustained as a youth and for the last few years I am having major trouble with my knees (Yes I know.  It Is a complaint voiced by many of advancing years)

2. How did you get into horse racing? When did you start first?

As a Uni Student I got a job on the Tote at Turfontein.  This actually paid for my student expenses and was a great source of income.  Later I used to dabble but never took it seriously.

Then when I had my business effectively stolen from me a few years ago I was left penniless and without a pension.  Being fairly immobile I started writing which is something I still do.  However competing with writers from India and Brazil happy to work for 0.25c a word it is a very hard way to make a living and in fact one can’t rely on it so I had to find another source.

3. What is the main concept you are using? Tell us more about RR
system and results?

There is a huge amount of info available online offered by lots of different sources.  The trouble is just about all of them achieve a 30% or lower Strike rate.  And many of these tips are on favourites.  If they were consistently 30% one has to actually get average odds of over 3 to break even and bookies wouldn’t tolerate that and the average odds offered on favourites are evens at best.  Betting on favourites is also a good way of going broke fairly fast.

What I decided to do was to collate and distill this info while trying to find reliable sources with good strike rates.  What I have now got is 4 sources that each, independently assess each horse and race in comparison to the others in the field and each offer me a rating.

My Objective is the achievement of a 50% Strike Rate.  In  order to do this I am collating all the info and am now advertising the selections where all 4 filters isolate particular horses as winners. (Score 4). I am advertising as Place bets those where one of the 4 filters is a 2. (Score 5)

I seemed to do very well in July and August going further down the order selecting 6s and sometimes 7s as well.  This quickly shot me up to 200 points.  And then came the last 3 weeks of September where I couldn’t find any winners and even my place percentages dropped below the ideal 65 to 70% mark.

However, with the end of the flat season this appears to have turned around and my results for the first 6 days of October are stunning:
RR has selected 31 horses.  Of those 15 won and 11 placed leaving only 5 losses.

I only recommended 8 as wins and 5 of those were winners with a further 2 placing (so only 1 loss) Strike Rate = 62.5%

My place hit rate is likewise very satisfactory with 10 winners 9 places and only 4 losses  So the HR (including the winners is 26 out of 31 possibles (83.9%)

I hope I can maintain that.

4. If someone wants to start with horse racing, there is a lot of new
terminology. What is the easiest way to start with Horse racing?

The first bit of advice I can give is to activate the Bull$#it meter.  There are any number of tipsters out there making extravagant claims.  Start by reading as much as you can and try an find some reliable and consistent sources of info.  Quickly discard the extragent and unreliable or inconsistent and that you can only do by checking history.

At The Races, Timeform and Geegeez all offer plenty of stuff.  Learn which are reliable. and take them to heart.

Bet small and never punt.  (A punt is an English expression meaning betting because of a feeling, because you like the name of a horse or you heard some guy you met in a pub talking)  Punting is another good way of losing money fast.

5. What other sports do you bet and follow?

Rugby.  NBA  I am trying to get enough info to start on the other US sports so have started following some of the Zcodesters.

6. You’ve been voted as one of the best contributors of Zcode. What
are your tips for your followers and fans?

Bear with me.  Like everyone I have ups and downs but I am personally endeavouring to be consistent.

P.S. I attached a pic of my kittens bugging me at my work station.  It was still summer then but now Winter has come on fast.

Thank you!
