The English Premier League week 1 had plenty of surprises. Defending champions Chelsea was defeated by lowly Burnley, Liverpool drew 3-3 with Watford, and Manchester United rolled to a dominating 4-0 win over West Ham. Anything can happen in EPL week 2 as ten great matches will take place over the course of three days.
Let’s look at three great EPL week 2 teams and matches to wager on.
Huddersfield +130
Huddersfield is in its first English top-flight soccer season in 45 years, and last weekend, the Terriers didn’t waste time in making headlines. The club outclassed opponents Crystal Palace, 3-0. This week, Huddersfield host Newcastle and the team is excellent value to wager on in EPL week 2. Last week, Huddersfield was +380 to win away to Crystal Palace, and this week, with the team’s high-pressing defense, a win is likely.
ZCode Systems’ scores predictor has Huddersfield to win 3-0 against Newcastle, and after the Terriers’ opening week win, it could happen. But Newcastle should be more defensively prepared in EPL week 2 for the team’s attack.
Tottenham +105
Tottenham host Chelsea in the biggest match of the early season. Tottenham is coming off of a solid 2-0 win in week 1 against Newcastle, while Chelsea lost 3-2 at home to Burnley. Chelsea come into the match without two of its key players, Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas, will serve suspensions in EPL week 2 after red cards last week. The Blues are also missing star playmaker Eden Hazard, who is still recovering from a broken ankle. So, things don’t look too promising for the reigning champions.
Tottenham may not have had a big offseason of adding new star players, but the team still has its three best attackers Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen. Eriksen really shone in Tottenham’s week 1 match against Newcastle, tallying two assists. Spurs have a great defense that compliments its attack, and I can’t see Spurs losing this match.
ZCode System’s scores predictor has been quite favorable toward Tottenham, picking them to win 3-0. Although I think that is a bit much, Spurs should tally the W on Sunday.
Manchester City vs. Everton (draw) +475
Manchester City has been selected by sportsbooks around the world to win the EPL this season. The team looked good in week 1, although it struggled for 70 minutes to breakdown Brighton to get the opening goal. City’s 2-0 win flattered the team a bit, as Brighton had plenty of chances of its own. Its that reason, I think Everton can get a draw at Manchester City in EPL week 2 Monday Night Football.
Manchester City is favored to win the fixture at -350. But Everton has really improved its playing personnel in the offseason. The club re-signed Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, and the former England international scored Everton’s only goal in its week 1 win. The club has also signed goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, defender Michael Keane and midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson. Those moves should see the team not only improve, but get a draw against Manchester City in EPL week 2.
