EPL predictions: Saturday, September 1
Leicester vs. Liverpool
First place Liverpool travel to seventh place Leicester to start the weekend. Despite hammering West Ham on opening day, 4-0, Liverpool has failed to reach the same goal-scoring heights. Leicester away will be a difficult task for the Reds. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side has kept three clean sheets behind the fantastic play of its defense and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Result: Liverpool
West Ham vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
West Ham has been dire this term. The team is -7 in goal difference with just two scored. Manager Manuel Pellegrini could be set for the exit if things keep up. Wolverhampton held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw a week ago. There is a lot of talent in the Wanderers’ team and win away is probable.
Result: Wolverhampton Wanderers
Brighton vs. Fulham
Chris Hughton’s Brighton is better than its three points from nine shown. The team defeated Manchester United at home before narrowly missing out on a draw at Liverpool. Fulham has quality throughout the squad and has shown goals won’t be a problem. Giving up goals is a problem so far. Fulham has allowed seven goals from three games.
Result: Brighton
Chelsea vs. Bournemouth
Chelsea sits third with nine points from nine. The Blues have been surprisingly good under new manager Maurizio Sarri. Chelsea is +5 in goals scored with just three conceded. Chelsea leads the EPL in possession and will starve Bournemouth of the ball at Stamford Bridge.
Result: Chelsea
Crystal Palace vs. Southampton
Despite two straight losses, Crystal Palace isn’t a bad team. Manager Roy Hodgson has a capable squad, but it needs striker Christian Benteke to start scoring goals. The striker has been misfiring thus far. Southampton isn’t great and goal scoring has been an issue. The Saints will give up goals on the road.
Result: Crystal Palace
Everton vs. Huddersfield
Everton goes into the weekend with injury problems. Center-back Michael Keane is out with a skull fracture while defenders Phil Jagielka and Yerry Mina will miss out too. Making things worse is leading scorer Richarlison is suspended after receiving a red card last weekend. Huddersfield has scored just one goal this season and gained a single point. Yet, Everton’s deficiencies could lead to an upset.
Result: Draw
Manchester City vs. Newcastle
Manchester City was held to a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton. Newcastle doesn’t have the same quality of players as Wolves, but manager Rafa Benitez’s tactics could frustrate Manchester City. Expect Newcastle to defend deep which will only delay the inevitable. Manchester City leads the EPL in goals scored and will add to that tally.
Result: Manchester City
EPL predictions: Sunday, September 2
Cardiff vs. Arsenal
Cardiff is yet to score in the EPL this term. The Bluebirds have been woeful in front of goal. Arsenal is getting its act together after two losses to start the season. Cardiff will frustrate Arsenal at times, but will ultimately succumb to the better team.
Result: Arsenal
Watford vs. Tottenham
Watford host Tottenham in a match of two teams on nine points. Tottenham has surprised many after the club failed to make a transfer buy during the summer. Watford has also surprised due to the Hornets fast start. Spurs will have too much for the home side and keep their perfect record going.
Result: Burnley
Burnley vs. Manchester United
Burnley has just one point from nine. The team has had its eye on the Europa League, which it could be eliminated from by the time Sunday’s match kicks off. Manchester United has suffered two defeats in a row. Manager Jose Mourinho has polarized the club’s hierarchy, players, and fanbase. A loss could see him exit, but Manchester United should do just enough to win against a Burnley team lacking in the same quality of players.
Result: Manchester United
