NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize) Standings Update: Devils Flyers

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize, $50 Runner up): Standings Update

My New Jersey Devils blew the lead in the third, and ultimately lost in overtime to the hated Philadelphia Flyers. A few of you were able to successfully predict the outcome of this challenging game. Congratulations!

Here are our updated standings going into the tenth round of the contest. Things are heating up, and there’s a lot of clutter at the top. Keep it up! Duane held onto his lead, but it’s still anybody’s game!

NHL Picks Contest: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

NHL Picks Contest Round Nine: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

As usual, we’ve picked a good one. The line is essentially a coin flip and the computer and I disagree. Tough game to predict.

For me this comes down to goaltending and defense. I think the Devils have the better goalie, I think neither team has much of a defense, and I think the Devils’ depth matches up well with the Flyers’ isolated scoring. At home, I think that’s all they’ll need to win this one.

The computer looks at how hot the Flyers are, but I feel like the  ...

NHL Picks Contest Round Nine ($100 Prize): Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

– Tuesday, January 7th

I don’t know that there’s a rivalry I enjoy more than Flyers Devils. This year, both teams are in a cluttered battle for the third playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Devils have played better of late and are home, but the Flyers are surging into relevance again.

Who ya got?

Here are our standings after eight rounds:

NHL $100 Contest – Standings After Two Rounds

– Remember, 2nd Place gets $50 too, so keep playing!

We had 47 comments on the last competition post, and only seven people got the game correct. Congratulations on those of you that picked the Flyers. Crazy game.

Watch for our next contest round being posted Friday for games next Tuesday. I’m going to try to keep in a rhythm to keep it easier to participate, but don’t forget to check back for regular game predictions as well!

NHL Picks 11/12: $100 Contest Round Two – Philadelphia Flyers at Ottawa Senators

NHL Picks and Predictions – $100 Contest Game Pick: Philadelphia Flyers at Ottawa Senators

I guess they can’t all be as challenging as our first round. I suppose that comes from picking games before the line is up to give everyone a chance to vote. Since we posted, the Senators went on a winning streak and the Flyers have continue to slump.

That probably explains the line, -140, and the Z-Code readout. It also probably explains why our Z-Code Facebook Community is all over the Senators. Still, I wouldn’t write off the Flyers just yet.

Ottawa has been a tremendously  ...

NHL Picks Contest Standings Update: Round One

We had 17 winners in the first round of our $100 dollar contest. Remember, this is a long competition (10 wins) and even second place gets a prize. Keep at it if it didn’t start how you wanted. We had 41 comments, not all of which were game picks, and 17 winners. It was a nearly perfect coin flip game. Those who picked the Flyers were robbed.

Here are our standings:

Simply comment on our Facebook post for the contest with who you think will win the game to be eligible. Here is my game preview.

Can we pick ’em or what? When we singled this one out I thought it would be a tough game to pick but I didn’t think it would be this tough. It’s a coin flip game according to the algorithm. Both sides of the line are equally valuable according to the value parameter. Las Vegas says both teams are  ...

NHL Predictions 2013-14, Metropolitan Division: New York Rangers or Pittsburgh Penguins?

NHL PREDICTIONS, 2013-14 SEASON PREVIEW: Metropolitan Division

The NHL season returns to us this week, so we thought we’d throw some season previews  and predictions your way. My favorite division after the shuffle is definitely the Metropolitan Division. It’s comprised of eight teams that could conceivably be playoff contenders, that now must battle through each other to try to make the postseason.

As a Devils fan, I hate the new system and hate this new division. It’s absolutely loaded. Nevertheless, this is definitely the most fun division for me to break down. Might as well start out the season having  ...

NHL Picks and Predictions: Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers

NHL Featured Game: Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers

When Z-Code and I agree, we are unstoppable this season… but I can’t post games like that every time. It would take the excitement away, right? And we have to leave something for our VIP Club members.

Today is another intense rivalry game between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers that Z-Code and I just don’t see the same way. I see no value in this game, and find parameters within the Z-Code prediction that suggest limited value again. For me, when this happens, you go goaltending and value if  ...

NHL Picks and Predictions: Philadelphia Flyers at Montreal Canadiens

Another day, another win for the featured game. We’re rolling now!

NHL Featured Game – Philadelphia Flyers at Montreal Canadiens

I know the Flyers are on a back to back, and likely very tired, but the Habs lack the weapons to go toe-to-toe with the Flyers when they’re clicking. I expect this offense to erupt.

The Habs are great at home, but value is on the Flyers. Check out our screenshot for my VIP Club analysis and the Z-Code output for this game.
