NHL Picks and Predictions 10/4: New Jersey Devils Vs New York Islanders

NHL Picks and Predictions 10/4: New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils

These aren’t the New York Islanders of old. Nor are they the New York Islanders of the 80s. The New York Islanders are somewhere very much in between – no longer terrible but still not a legitimate contender.

The New Jersey Devils aren’t the Devils of old either. Gone are the days of reasonable Stanley Cup expectations, and here are a bunch of long-shot underdogs in the final days of a living legend in net. They already had one magical Stanley Cup run… maybe this group has a run  ...

NHL Predictions 2013-14, Metropolitan Division: New York Rangers or Pittsburgh Penguins?

NHL PREDICTIONS, 2013-14 SEASON PREVIEW: Metropolitan Division

The NHL season returns to us this week, so we thought we’d throw some season previews  and predictions your way. My favorite division after the shuffle is definitely the Metropolitan Division. It’s comprised of eight teams that could conceivably be playoff contenders, that now must battle through each other to try to make the postseason.

As a Devils fan, I hate the new system and hate this new division. It’s absolutely loaded. Nevertheless, this is definitely the most fun division for me to break down. Might as well start out the season having  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks and Predictions: Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders

NHL Playoffs Picks and Predictions: Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a gutsy move to sit their franchise goaltender in favor of a veteran that was run out of the last two teams he played for.

As a backup, Vokoun was mediocre, but the Penguins needed a spark. He shut out a scrappy Islanders team and put the Penguins in position to close out the series. Back in net for the second game in a row, I think the Penguins and Vokoun will get that goal accomplished.

We have a heavy line for our series bet,  ...

NHL Picks and Predictions: Can New York Islanders Finish Season, Make Playoffs?

NHL Picks and Predictions: New York Islanders Could Make NHL Playoffs

The Islanders are very close to making it back to the postseason. They’re hot at the right time, and their second line has been incredibly productive since the trade deadline. With two lines of offensive production, a hot goalie, and a solid core group of defensemen, the Isles are on the move.

The Canes haven’t played well since Cam Ward’s injury (and Alexander Semin’s extension for that matter). I think at -140 you have to like the Isles here.

NHL Pick of the day by Ron for 3 February 2012

Fighting Streaks

Recap: Yikes! A 1-0 loss is hard to swallow and an unfortunate home loss for Colorado. Minnesota was finally able to protect a lead in the third, it took everything they had as they were heavily and continuously out shot. This means we’ll keep trucking, only two games short of .500 and due for another different kind of streak. Streaks were a big part of the strong times we had, so if possible I say we try and use them for our next game. Also, keep an eye out for another multi game and even several game night.  ...

NHL Pick of the day from Ron for 23 January 2012

Home and Home

Recap: Let’s go over some crucial points about our past couple of picks. We are now a game below .500, losing our past two days plays. On one of these days we had two game picks, so it comes out to three losing plays total which moved our record backwards to this point. Now we’re going to move forward and turn it around. Though it’s smart not to look back, we aren’t simply going to move forward in denial like most would. Instead we’re going to make room for some interesting discussion here, hope you enjoy it!

The goalies DO matter. A lot.

Like a pitcher in MLB, goalies in NHL DO MATTER. A lot. The goalie is not everything but it’s a big part of the success for the team.

Take a look at Tampa. They offense is hot but they allow 3-5 goals every game. How can you win like that?

Yesterday was one of those examples when zcode disqualified Flyers just because it saw Nabokov in the net. And it was a right move because he completely shut the flyers down.

The New York Islanders finally left Philadelphia with a victory after four frustrating years and 13 straight losses.  ...
