NHL Predictions: March 22

Teams continue to jockey for playoff positions with less than three weeks to play in the regular season. Here’s the lineup for March 22.

Tampa Bay Lightning versus New York Islanders

The Lightning have the best record in the Eastern Conference, while the Islanders are last in the Metropolitan Division. The teams are deadlocked at a game each in the season series, however Tampa Bay has a commanding +25 to +4 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. They are 7-2-1 over the last ten and face a team that is 1-6-3 over their last ten and “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Tampa Bay will cruise to victory in this one.

New York Rangers versus Philadelphia Flyers

In a Metropolitan Division battle, the Flyers look to push towards the top, while the Rangers try to avoid the basement. The teams are deadlocked on the Power Ranking Indicator and the Rangers are “burning hot” versus “ice cold up” for the Flyers. This is due to a 3-6-1 stretch for Philadelphia and 5-2-3 stretch for the Rangers. The season series is even at a game each and the Rangers are tied for seventh in Team Volatility. The Flyers will certainly be home favorites and should come away with a win.

Florida Panthers versus Columbus Blue Jackets

Both teams are in the middle of the pack in their respective divisions. Columbus has won the last two meetings and has a +22 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. They are also “burning hot” versus “average up” and are tied for eighth in Team Volatility. The Blue Jackets have won eight straight and although the Panthers have been quite solid late, Columbus is likely to win this one by a goal or two.

Toronto Maple Leafs versus Nashville Predators

Nashville enters with the best record in the NHL, while the Maple Leafs are third in the Atlantic Division. Toronto took the previous meeting this season between the teams. The Predators hold a slim +30 to +27 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Nashville is 9-0-1 in their last ten, while Toronto has won their last four. Being the home favorite and third in Team Volatility, the Predators will be victorious in what is likely the game of the day.

Vancouver Canucks versus Chicago Blackhawks

With neither team going anywhere in terms of the playoffs, pride is at stake. Chicago holds a +7 to 0 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, however the Canucks won the last two meetings between the teams. The teams have combined four wins over the last 20 games, justifying the “dead” and “ice cold” statuses on the Team Strength Oscillator.  Chicago gets the nod in this, mainly because they are the home team.

Vegas Golden Knights versus San Jose Sharks

In a battle of the top two teams in the Pacific Division, the Sharks are 7-2-1 over their last ten and have a +24 to +22 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Vegas is still in first place, but are just 5-5 over their last ten and “average down” status on the Team Strength Oscillator. Vegas has won the previous two meetings between the teams, but the Sharks are “burning hot” and are at home. I see San Jose winning this either by a goal in regulation or in overtime.
