NHL Picks November 1: Vancouver versus Anaheim featured game

As the month of November begins, NHL teams are just starting to find their identity for the 2019-2020 season. Several games are on tap for November 1 with the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks the featured battle in the Pacific Division.

Vancouver Canucks versus Anaheim Ducks

The Vancouver Canucks head to Anaheim in this Pacific Division showdown fourth in the division, while the Ducks are fifth. The Canucks are 7-2-1 over their last ten, are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +15 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Anaheim is “ice cold down” and +18 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams have been playing in high scoring games, so betting the “over” is a safe play in this one. Last season the Ducks controlled the series between the teams, winning three of four games. On the Team Volatility Oscillator, both are sitting at +3, indicating they are performing consistently with their favorite/underdog status. Go with the home team in this one, possibly in overtime to come out victorious.

Philadelphia Flyers versus New Jersey Devils

In the first meeting between the teams this season on October 9, the Flyers dominated at home, winning 4-0. They are 6th in the Metropolitan Divison while the Devils are last. Both teams are “average up” on the Team Strength Oscillator and the Flyers have a +13 to +9 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. If considering the over/under in this one, best to avoid as the teams are trending on opposite sides of the line. On the Team Volatility Oscillator, both clubs are relatively stable at +1.  New Jersey has been dreadful in goal differential at -14. Look for a road win for the Flyers by a goal to push the Devils further in the basement in the division.

Detroit Red Wings versus Carolina Hurricanes

After a 2-0-1 start, the Detroit Red Wings have hit a skid, losing their last eight. They are last in the Atlantic Division facing the Hurricanes, sitting at third in the Metropolitan Division. Carolina holds a +18 to +3 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are trending poorly at the moment, “ice cold down” versus “dead” for the Red Wings. Carolina is one of the most stable teams in the league early going at +3, indicating they should be a solid pick as home favorite. Betting the over would be the best bet with the teams involved in high scoring games so far. The Red Wings won two of the three games between the teams last season, but won’t take the first one this year. Go with the Hurricanes by two goals.

Columbus Blue Jackets versus St. Louis Blues

At fifth in the Metropolitan Division, the Blue Jackets head into St. Louis to take on the Blue, who are third in the Central Division. Columbus is “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +20 on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Blues are “average up” and +14. Best to avoid the over/under with team trending on different sides of the line. In terms are stability, the Blues have more consistently performed according to their favorite/underdog status this season. They will be home favorites, so the best bet is to pick the Blues in a tight contest.

Winnipeg Jets versus San Jose Sharks

Last season the Sharks took the series between the teams, winning two of three. They enter seventh in the Pacific and have struggled to a -12 goal differential. They are “average up” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +8 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Jets are fourth in the Central Division, “ice cold up” and +7. Here’s another game where it’s probably best to avoid betting the over/under. Take note that the Jets are -1 on the Team Volatility Oscillator, so take their favorite/underdog status lightly when betting. San Jose has been much more stable at +2. This looks like a good opportunity to bet on the Jets, who could be a road underdog in this one.
