NFL Predictions: Week 4

Entering week four of the NFL season and there have been some surprises. Can the Dolphins continue their hot start to knock off the 1-2 Patriots? Will the Raiders get their first win of the season or will the Browns move above the .500 mark? Check out the picks for week 4 of the NFL season.

Philadelphia Eagles versus Tennessee Titans

The defending Super Bowl champions saw the return of quarterback Carson Wentz last week. Although looking rusty at times, he appears healthy and is a big boost for the team. The also could be getting back Jay Ajayi and Alshon Jeffery, maximizing offensive potential. At 2-1 they take on the 2-1 Titans, winners of their last two. The Eagles enter a 3.5 point favorite and have a +18 to +8 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Philadelphia is tied for the sixth most unstable team in the league due in large part to the upset loss at Tampa Bay. The teams last met in 2014 with the Eagles winning at home. In a close game, the Eagles are still the better team and should find a way to win this game.

Miami Dolphins versus New England Patriots

The Dolphins are the early surprise team in the NFL starting at 3-0. Because of the hot start they are +31 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. New England is out of the gates slowly at 1-2 and are +15 and “average” status. The teams split the meetings last season with Miami winning as a home underdog. The Patriots are a full touchdown and extra point favorite this week. As good as Miami has been, it’s hard to envision the Patriots being three games out after four weeks. The will find a way to win, although it could be close.

Cleveland Browns versus Oakland Raiders

The Browns are off to a solid 1-1-1 start, while the Raiders look totally lost at 0-3. Cleveland has a +9 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “average down” status on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams haven’t meet in the regular season since 2015. Despite the poor start, Oakland is a 2.5 point favorite. The Raiders have to find a way to win sometime, so why not this week at home? However, the Browns have been playing inspired ball and wont go down easy. Take the Raiders to win by a field goal, barely covering the spread.

New Orleans Saints versus New York Giants

New Orleans enters in a three-way tie for first in the NFC South at 2-1. They take on a Giants team that got their first win of the season last week on the road. This weekend, they are a 3.5 point home underdog. As one of the most stable teams in the league, that may indicate an easy bet on the Saints. However, New Orleans is one of the most unstable teams so far, so betting on favorite/underdog status is likely not wise in this game. The Saints have a +20 to +2 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “average” status. The Saints have too much talent, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. The Giants can’t keep up with them in a shootout. The Saints will come away with the win.

San Francisco 49ers versus Los Angeles Chargers

In this west coast battle, both teams enter at 1-2 on the season. The Chargers come in as huge 10.5 point favorites, even though the 49ers have a +17 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. On the Team Strength Oscillator, the Chargers are “average” and the 49ers are “ice cold up”. The teams last met in the regular season in 2016. Tie for the ninth most stable team in the league, the 49ers have been consistently winning as favorites and losing as underdogs. Combine that with the Chargers playing at home and there is little reason to pick San Francisco. Go with the Chargers in a blowout win.

Baltimore Ravens versus Pittsburgh Steelers

In this AFC North battle, the 2-1 Ravens head to Pittsburgh to face the 1-1-1 Steelers. The Stelers have had the upper had lately, winning both meetings last season as favorites. Again they are a 3 point favorite this week.  Baltimore has a +19 to +16 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot down” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. One thing to consider is that the Ravens are the ninth most stable team in the league, while the Steelers are among the most unstable. Going with a gut feeling here, but the Ravens will pull off the upset to reverse the recent trend between the teams.
