NFL Predictions Week 13: Will Carolina bounce back against Tampa Bay?

Approaching the final month of the NFL season, a large percentage of the teams are still in the playoff hunt. Can the Panthers end their losing streak and remain in the race? Their game against the Buccaneers and more will be featured in this week’s predictions.

Carolina Panthers versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Panthers come in at 6-5 but have lost their last three. They are a 3.5 road favorite against the 4-7 Buccaneers, who are coming off a win. Carolina took the first meeting between the teams this year, 42-28 on November 4. They hold a +20 to +5 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams aren’t trending particularly well, as “average down” for Carolina and “ice cold up” for Tampa Bay.  The teams are nearly equal in terms of stability and the Panthers have a 57 percent chance of winning, as can be seen in our VIP Picks sections. The Panthers will remain very much in the playoff race and defeat the Buccaneers and cover.

Baltimore Ravens versus Atlanta Falcons

The Ravens can keep the pressure on the Steelers in the AFC North with a win. They enter a 2.5 point road favorite over the Falcons, who have lost three straight and sit at 4-7. Atlanta is in a must win situation to keep their playoff hopes alive. Baltimore holds a +17 to +13 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Despite the recent trends, the Ravens are only slight favorites with a 53 percent chance of winning. Baltimore is only 2-3 on the road and with Atlanta in a must win situation, I am leaning towards the Falcons to pull off the upset.

Chicago Bears versus New York Giants

The Bears are one of the hottest teams in the league, winners of their last five. They hold a +27 to +11 advantage over the Giants on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are among the most stable in the league according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. This means it’s wise to take note of favorite/underdog status for both teams in this one. As 4.5 point favorites, the Bears are too hot for the Giants to handle. The Bears will win to extend their streak to six.

Los Angeles Chargers versus Pittsburgh Steelers

In one of the top games of the week, the 8-3 Chargers take on the 7-3-1 Steelers. The Steelers six-game winning streak came to an end last week, while the Chargers are coming off a win to stay close to the Chiefs in the AFC West.  Pittsburgh has a +30 to +23 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Chargers are “burning hot” versus “burning hot down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Los Angeles is a bit more stable than the Steelers, so it’s advisable not to consider the favorite/underdog status of the Steelers too highly. Los Angeles is 4-1 on the road and despite being 3.5 point underdogs, take the Chargers plus the points and they could win outright.

Minnesota Vikings versus New England Patriots

The Vikings are coming off a divisional victory over the Packers. At 5-5-1, they are a 6.5 point road underdog at New England. The Patriots are 5-0 at home and have a +24 to +21 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. New England is “burning hot” versus “average up” and both teams rank high in stability on the Team Volatility Oscillator.  The Vikings are 2-2-1 on the road and there is little to indicate they can pull off the upset. This is the time of the season where the Patriots generally kick it into gear. I suspect much of the same this week. Take New England to win and cover.
