NBA Predictions December 21: Boston versus Milwaukee highlights key match ups

As the end of another calendar year quickly approaches, the NBA season is nearing the halfway point. In the Eastern Conference, the Celtics battle the Bucks in what should be the game of the day. Four other games for December 21 will be examined. Note that all information is for games played through December 17.

Detroit Pistons versus Charlotte Hornets

The Pistons are just 3-7 over their last ten games and come in “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +7 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Charlotte is 5-5 over their last ten, are 14-15 on the season and “average down” and +11. The Hornets have won five of the last six games between the teams and are a 10-7 at home, compared to the Pistons 4-7 road record. Detroit is one of the most stable teams in the league, at  +12 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. This means they perform very consistently to their favorite/underdog status. Detroit will be a road underdog and the Hornets have their number, so look for Charlotte to win this one.

Indiana Pacers versus Brooklyn Nets

Indiana comes in with the longest current winning streak in the NBA at seven games. They are +27 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Brooklyn is just 13-18 overall, but a more solid 5-5 over their last ten. They are “burning hot” and +15 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams are showing stability, with the Nets at +10 and the Pacers +9 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Indiana will be road favorites and have won the last six meetings between the teams. The Pacers will continue their roll and take down the Nets.

Milwaukee Bucks versus Boston Celtics

In what is likely the top game of the day, the Eastern Conference number two seed Bucks takes on the number five seed Celtics.  Boston holds a +29 to +17 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, having won eight of their last ten. They are “burning hot down” versus “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are performing consistently to their favorite/underdog status. The teams have matched up well, as the teams have split their last six meetings. Milwaukee will be a slight road underdog. Certainly they could win they game, but Boston has appeared to find their way again and should win this in a tight game decided late.

Utah Jazz versus Portland Trailblazers

Portland is in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference playoff race, while the Jazz are second worst in the conference. Trending in different directions, Portland is “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus “ice cold down” for Utah. Portland is also the more stable team at +8 to +3, so their home favorite status should be taken strongly into consideration. The teams have split the last six meetings, but I look for the Trailblazers to come away with a home win, to go one up over the last seven.

New Orleans Pelicans versus Los Angeles Lakers

The LeBron James lead Lakers are 7-3 over their last ten and 18-12 on the season. Having lost their last game, they are “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Although the Pelicans have a worse record, they have a +20 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams are among the most stable in the league, leaning the pick more towards the Lakers as a home favorite. Los Angeles is 11-4 on the road, while the Pelicans are a poor 4-11 on the road. The Lakers should win this win rather easily defending their home court.
