The season has had plenty of storylines, twists and turns already. The Boston Celtics surged early only to fall behind the Toronto Raptors. The Cleveland Cavaliers were looked at as a team undone by poor offseason personnel moves. However, the Cavs’ flurry of trade deadline transactions makes them look more likely of topping the Eastern Conference once the NBA Playoffs begin.

Reigning NBA Champions the Golden State Warriors are still the favorites to win the Finals. But the team could have a challenge on their hands this season in the Western Conference.

NBA Finals future odds: The race for the NBA Playoffs

Golden State Warrior -180

The Warriors own the second best record in the NBA, and sit a half game behind the Houston Rockets at the all-star break. For as good as Golden State has been, Houston has kept stride with the team this season. Steph Curry remains Golden State’s on court leader. The point guard averages 29.1 ppg and 7.1 apg. The one-two combination of Curry and Kevin Durant make them the team to beat in the Association.

Houston Rockets +400

Despite owning the NBA’s best record, the Houston Rockets aren’t getting love from sportsbooks. The Rockets signing of Chris Paul has worked wonders. His play has freed up guard James Harden, who leads the NBA in points per game with 31.3. Harden is having a fantastic year, but seven Rockets players are averaging double-digits per game. Harden also averages 9.0 apg, so he is still creating baskets for others. In three games this season, Houston has beaten Golden State two times. Could the Rockets win it all this season?

Cleveland Cavaliers +600

Sportsbooks expect the Cleveland Cavaliers to get things right and win the Eastern Conference. The team has underachieved with over the hill, over priced players early on. However, February’s trade deadline moves have fixed many of the problems the team had. LeBron James is still expected to leave in the summer, so it is questionable how dedicated he his to making the NBA Finals again. Currently, 6.5 games behind Toronto, Cleveland need to improve on the road. The team is 14-15 away from The Q.

Boston Celtics +1200

The Boston Celtics will reflect on a season that could have been in the summer. The team acquired Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward ahead of the season. However, Hayward’s season-ending injury has made the Celtics a one-man team. Irving is good, but he can’t carry this team all by himself. Although Boston allows the second fewest points per game, the team will resume play following a three game losing streak.

Oklahoma City Thunder +2000

Unbelievably, sportsbooks have placed the Oklahoma City Thunder as the fifth favorite to win the NBA Finals. OKC is currently fifth in the Western Conference and 12 games back of Houston. Yes, the Thunder have Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, but there in lies the problem. The team has three players that want the ball and to be the main man. So far, Westbrook has proved he can score heaps of points, but he is unable to combine with teammates to lead OKC to the NBA Championship.
