NHL Picks: Expert Hockey Predictions for Today – Caps, Ducks, Blues

NHL Picks: Today’s Expert NHL Predictions – Caps, Ducks, Blues Let’s try this again. We’re nearing the end of the season and that was our first day losing a unit or more in 3 months. As a result, when three more games fit my NHL system again today, let’s try to get some of that back. Once again, we will be laying out all the forum plays in the system today. We like the Anaheim Ducks, the Washington Capitals, and the St. Louis Blues.

While I’m disappointed that the Vancouver Canucks pulled out a win last night, I’m confident they  ...

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

I like the Vancouver Canucks. Their loss in the Stanley Cup, the riots that followed, and the collapse of Roberto Luongo basically launched me into professional journalism as page views and comments crashed the site I was freelancing with at the time. I’m a big Ryan Kesler guy as a US hockey guy, so I enjoyed following his career before he left. I follow them closely, we’ve won good money on them, and they came through with an epic loss for me. I’m also a New Jersey Devils fan, and I’m thankful for  ...

NHL Pacific Division Predictions: Anaheim Ducks Still Dominant

NHL Pacific Division Picks: Ducks, Kings, Flames I was surprised by the Calgary Flames last year and impressed by what I consider an unexpected playoff run. Traditional favorites like the LA Kings and Vancouver Canucks fell off a bit, and the Flames jumped in to fill the void. Can they do it again? Can anyone catch the Anaheim Ducks?

1. Anaheim Ducks (107 pts): I think the Ducks are arguably the most complete team in hockey. They have strong goaltending, experienced depth, and an explosive offense. I don’t know how anyone can catch them, and competitive as the West is,  ...

NHL All Star Break: Free NHL Picks Contest ($100) – Standings Update

NHL All-Star Break: Free NHL Picks Contest Standings Update ($100 Prize)We had a -180 ML in our last game between the Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning, but somehow still had a pretty even split. The heavy favorite was dominant, as the line suggested, and those who took the “easy money” were fortunate enough to win. Here’s where our standings are coming into the NHL All Star Break. Halfway through the NHL season, we’re halfway through our free NHL Picks contest with a free $100 prize to the first person to reach ten wins.

Free NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Canucks Lightning

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Vancouver Canucks at Tampa Bay Lightning

Tuesday, January 20th

The Tampa Bay Lightning are fresh off a horrible loss to a 33-year-old rookie goalie and the Philadelphia Flyers at the time of this writing, but their offense remains one of the most explosive in hockey. The Vancouver Canucks, at the time of this writing, have scored one goal in their last two games, both at home. Both teams have had solid seasons. Both teams are stumbling right now. Tampa Bay is a long way away from Vancouver, but the Lightning, for me, have been the more volatile team this year. Who ya got? As always, simply comment on this post on our Facebook page to be eligible for our contest and the $100 prize!

Here are our NHL Picks Contest standings so far:

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): New York Rangers at Vancouver Canucks

NHL Picks: New York Rangers at Vancouver Canucks

Today is the NHL Picks Contest’s second round with a $100 prize. As usual, I don’t really have a lean for you. Heck, that’s why we make it a contest game. The computer seems to find underdog value in the New York Rangers, with a 77% chance that they keep it within a goal or win the game outright. I agree that it will be a close game, but I certainly won’t have money on this one.

What I will do is play along in the NHL Picks Contest. It’s free to  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): New York Rangers at Vancouver Canucks

NHL Picks Contest Round Two ($100 Prize): Rangers at Canucks

Saturday, December 13th

I liked this little rivalry after the coach swap, but now that John Tortorella is finally out of the NHL, this is just fun on its own. The New York Rangers have battled injuries and lost a little bit of depth this year, but the Canucks didn’t appear to be much deeper to begin the season. Adding veteran goaltender Ryan Miler seems to have made all the difference in Vancouver. That, and finally getting rid of Torts.

So, in our second round of a first-to-ten competition, who ya got? The Rangers are across the country, but I think they’re the better team. It’s also the front half of a back to back, but the back end is the Edmonton Oilers so I doubt that will have much of an impact here. This should be a nice defensive battle.

As always simply comment on this post pinned to  ...

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

I’m beginning to think the Caps just aren’t a good team. They seem to have an abundance of talent, or at least enough talent to keep them in the hunt, but they aren’t putting together wins, 10-13 ML on the year. They’re 5-4-3 at home and on a bit of a skid at the moment. Somehow, still, they’re fourth in the East and giving away some serious value on lines lately, as we continue to bet against them to some decent profits.

Vancouver, on the other hand, has been a cash cow  ...

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks

The Vancouver Canucks have been a pleasant surprise this year. The addition of Ryan Miller has them back to a team anchored in goaltending that we’re used to seeing from the days of the Luongo-Schneider platoon. The offense is still fairly mediocre, but the chemistry is undeniably there. The defense has been serviceable, and the Canucks are beating teams they’re supposed to be beating, which isn’t always how NHL hockey goes. It’s been a good run for the Canucks.

The San Jose Sharks are also heating up, winning three of four against  ...

2014 NHL Predictions: Ducks, Kings, Sharks in Pacific Division Preview

2014 NHL Predictions: Pacific Division Preview – Ducks, Kings, Sharks

The 2014-15 season starts tomorrow, so we’ll post our final division preview before getting into game picks tomorrow. The Pacific division had three teams with a positive goal differential, which, not so coincidentally, meant three playoff teams last year. The LA Kings, who ultimately won another Stanley Cup, the top-seeded Anaheim Ducks, and the perennial postseason let downs, the San Jose Sharks. Does 2014 have anything new in store, or will this division play out exactly how it did last season? Can the newly renamed “Arizona Coyotes” squeak back into the playoffs?

San Jose Sharks (110 points) – Same team, same results. The San Jose Sharks are the most consistent team in the Pacific, which may be enough for a top seed as the rest of this division tinkers with their rosters. In any event, the mediocrity of this division will see the Sharks to another playoff spot where they  ...
