NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens

NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens The Buffalo Sabres have been better lately. Simply put, they are not the pushover that they were in the beginning of the season. That said, neither are the Montreal Canadiens, but probably not for the better. Still, the Habs have been winning games lately and look like the team we thought they would be when Carey Price was healthy.

I trust the Montreal Canadiens again. The Habs have lost a bunch of games lately, but they were very competitive out west and lost those games to great teams during a tough stretch of  ...

NHL Picks: Montreal Canadiens at LA Kings

NHL Picks: Montreal Canadiens at LA Kings Consider of all our logic and reasoning from last night’s win against the Montreal Canadiens, add a back to back, and substitute a team that has won four of five instead of nine in a row. It looks like an awfully similar equation, and I like the LA Kings to beat the Habs tonight.

The Canadiens are playing better, as evidenced by the overtime battle they just had on the road with one of the best teams in hockey. Now, however, they will insert a backup goalie for the man who kept them  ...

NHL Picks: Montreal Canadiens at Anaheim Ducks Preview

NHL Picks: Montreal Canadiens at Anaheim Ducks Recently, the Montreal Canadiens have stopped being laughably terrible. They have started to win games again and are no longer on a skid from the upper echelon of the league to the deepest depths of despair. Without Carey Price, the Habs simply haven’t been competitive until recently. With him, they would likely be one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference.

The Anaheim Ducks stumbled mightily in the beginning of the season. They, unlike the Montreal Canadiens, had no real reason for their terrible start. Anaheim was a team that I predicted  ...

Free NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Montreal Canadiens at Columbus Blue Jackets

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Montreal Canadiens at Columbus Blue Jackets

Monday, January 25th The Montreal Canadiens have fallen off the face of the earth without Carey Price. The best team in hockey seemed to have deep defense and sufficient scoring to make a run at another Stanley Cup, but the Habs have stumbled for a while now. Meanwhile, the Columbus Blue Jackets have recovered a bit from their horrific start. They look a little more competitive these days. Hosting the better team in a big slump, who will win this one?

Only three people got it right last week so  ...

NHL Atlantic Division Picks 2015-16: Canadiens, Bruins, Lightning

2015-16 Atlantic Division Predictions: Habs, Bruins, Bolts

Last year, the Boston Bruins collapsed and fell all the way out of playoff contention. The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning took huge steps forward and dominated the rest of the division in their place. Can the Bruins bounce back? Are the Habs Stanley Cup contenders? Can the Tampa Bay Lightning take the next step? Let’s see.

1. Boston Bruins (103 pts): A value play at +500 and 10:1 long shots to win the Stanley Cup, I’m not sure why people are completely writing off the Boston Bruins. Yes, they fell apart  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks: Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning Game Six

NHL Playoffs Picks: Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning Game Six

This series didn’t quite go to plan for us as the Bolts jumped out to a big lead early and won some tough, gritty games. True to form, however, the Tampa Bay Lightning began to show the same inconsistencies that plagued them through the first round. The Montreal Canadiens are one of the more consistent teams in hockey, winning games the ugly way and fighting through each game so far (except for a 6-2 blowout, randomly sprinkled in). In the end, this has been quite a series.

We decided  ...

NHL Playoffs Predictions: Canadiens, Rangers, Wild, and Ducks

NHL Playoffs Predictions: Habs, Ducks, Rangers, Wild in Second Round Let’s take a look at our bracket. We got the entire Eastern Conference right, and we’ve made profit on the first round of the NHL Playoffs again. We got five of the eight and missed the Minnesota Wild taking out the Blues and the Calgary Flames taking out the Canucks. Honestly, if Shea Weber doesn’t go down I think the Nashville Predators had a great chance at knocking off the Chicago Blackhawks. All in all, not a bad round. Our Finals picks are still alive, and we were low confidence on a couple of those losses. We won money in the first round, and now, with a better grasp of the NHL playoffs field, we look to build on it. Here’s my picks for the NHL Playoffs second round where I’ve got the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, and Minnesota Wild advancing.

NHL Playoffs Bracket Picks: Ducks Habs Stanley Cup?

2015 NHL Playoffs: Bracket Predictions, Canadiens Ducks Stanley Cup?

In the past three years we’ve gotten a total of two series wrong in the first round. While our brackets have tended to fade as the NHL playoffs go on, first round matchups have been something of a specialty for me with Z-Code. That said, I look at this first round as a bunch of volatile, unpredictable matchups. We’ll do this bracket for fun because it’s become something of a tradition, but I won’t be betting every series line anymore — for the first time since college.

I look at this  ...

NHL Picks: Chicago Blackhawks at Montreal Canadiens

NHL Picks: Chicago Blackhawks at Montreal Canadiens

I love these Original Six rivalries. Both teams are on two losses in a row, and with the Habs climbing back into relevance this is a battle of two of the top teams in hockey.

The Habs at home are a very difficult team to play against. They have a raucous crowd, a shutdown defense that matches up well with a top-heavy offense like Chicago, and it appears Carey Price is finally feeding on the energy of the Bell Centre. This should be a very interesting game.

Corey Crawford is back in net and should be able to stop some of the bleeding for the Blackhawks. I think they’re the better team, and as far as two-way depth goes I think they have enough talent to get by a solid Habs team.

I think this will be close, but I think there’s value in the line for the Blackhawks. Z-Code disagrees, viewing this  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Round Four Bruins Habs

MLB and NHL Playoffs Picks Contest Rd 4: Bruins Habs ($100 Prize, first to ten wins)

Another upset as a minority of players got it right this week, but the Montreal Canadiens took out the Boston Bruins again. The NHL Playoffs have been epic, and so has our contest. We’ve got some new leaders! Congrats again, let’s keep winning together!
