NHL Predictions March 15: Can Philadelphia continue push towards playoffs?

The NHL season is winding down as the middle of March approaches. The Philadelphia Flyers look to make a final push for a possible playoff spot. Three other games are on tap, as well. Note that all information is for games played through March 12.

Philadelphia Flyers versus Toronto Maple Leafs

The Flyers enter play with a 18-13-4 road record heading into Toronto, where the Maple Leafs are 21-13-1. Both teams have been involved in high scoring games lately, so go with the “over” on the over/under. Toronto won the first meeting between the teams and has a +26 to +18 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Philadelphia is “burning hot” versus “average down” for Toronto, while the teams are even in terms of stability. Philadelphia has been hot, but Toronto has the overall edge and will likely come out on top. Don’t be surprised if this one goes to overtime.

Vegas Golden Knights versus Dallas Stars

Both teams have been performing well lately, as their “burning hot down” and “burning hot” statuses indicate. Vegas has taken the first two meetings between the teams this season and have a +26 to +16 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Vegas is an even 17-17-1 on the road, while the Stars are 21-11-2 at home.  Both teams have been engaging in defensive battles, so bet the “under”. Look for Dallas to edge the Golden Knights to win the first of the year between the teams.

New York Rangers versus Calgary Flames

There is little to indicate that the Rangers can stay with the Flames in this contest. New York is “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +6 on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Flames are trending poorly at “ice cold down”, they are +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator.  The Rangers are a poor 11-17-5 on the road and Calgary is very strong at home at 21-7-5. Both teams are “under” on the Totals Predictor, so bet on the “under”. Also look for the Flames to easily dispose of the Rangers.

Carolina Hurricanes versus Columbus Blue Jackets

The Hurricanes head into Columbus having won two of the three meetings between the teams this season. They are +24 compared to +14 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Columbus doesn’t even have a home ice advantage with a 19-16-2 mark at home compared to Carolina’s 20-13-3 road record. The teams are performing oppositely on the Totals Predictor, so avoid betting the over/under in this one. Look for the Hurricanes to earn a road win in this one.
