We have surpassed the halfway point of the NFL season and teams are jockeying for playoff position. Can the Texans remain hot as they travel to Washington? This match up and four others will be the focus this week.
Houston Texans versus Washington Redskins
Houston comes in winners of their last six. Both teams are 6-3 and tops in their division. Houston holds a narrow +24 to +23 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while Houston is “burning hot” versus “average up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Washington is the most unstable team in the league, so look at their favorite/underdog status with caution. Houston is a 5.5 point favorite and have a 59 percent chance of winning according to our VIP Picks section. I go with Houston to remain hot, but the Redskins could cover.
Dallas Cowboys versus Atlanta Falcons
Dallas is coming off a big win in Philadelphia, while the Falcons fell to the Browns. The playoff lives of both teams are on the line in this one. Atlanta holds a +22 to +10 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and won the game between the teams last season. They are three point home favorites and Dallas has been poor on the road, with the exception of last week’s win. There is little to indicate that Dallas can pull off a repeat performance. Go with the Falcons to win and cover.
Pittsburgh Steelers versus Jacksonville Jaguars
In teams heading in opposite directions, the “burning hot” Steelers at 6-2-1 take on a “dead” Jaguars team at 3-6. The Steelers look for revenge as the Jaguars won the last meeting in last season’s playoffs. Pittsburgh has a +28 to +8 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and are 5.5 point favorites. They have a 63 percent chance of winning, as noted in our VIP Picks section. Pittsburgh will take their six straight and hand the Jaguars their six straight loss, all but eliminating them from playoff consideration.
Denver Broncos versus Los Angeles Chargers
In this AFC West match up, the 7-2 Chargers look to bury the 3-6 Broncos. Los Angeles has a huge advantage of +26 to +3 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams split last season and are meeting for the first time this season. The Chargers are a 7 point favorite and have a 66 percent chance of winning. I would increase that percentage and believe there is no way the Broncos can stay close. Los Angeles will win and cover.
Tennessee Titans versus Indianapolis Colts
Tennessee is coming off a 34-10 win over the Patriots and are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Colts have been playing well also, winners of three straight and are 2.5 point home favorites. The Colts have had their way with the Titans, winning both games last season. Tennessee is among the most unstable teams in the league, while the Colts are among the most stable. In a game that is pretty much a toss up, perhaps will lean slightly towards the Colts at home, but don’t be surprised if the Titans take this one. In other words, bet with caution.
