NFL Predictions: Divisional Round

Atlanta Falcons versus Philadelphia Eagles

There are factors that point in both directions, making this a difficult game to pick. The Falcons are a 2.5-point favorite, making the Eagles the first number one seed to be an underdog in a divisional playoff game. Atlanta has the edge on the Team Strength Oscillator with a “burning hot” status versus “average” for the Eagles. However, the Eagles still rank higher on the Power Ranking Indicator. The key to this game could be the play of Nick Foles. If he is even average, the Eagles had a good chance to win, but any play similar to the last couple of weeks and Atlanta advances. In this toss-up game, I would avoid betting.

New Orleans Saints versus Minnesota Vikings

The Saints enters as a 3.5-point underdog against the number two seeded Vikings. Minnesota is “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Saints are “average down”. The Vikings hold a +29 to +23 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. Although most signs point to the Vikings, I see Drew Brees versus Case Keenum. It’s hard to bet against the experience of Brees, particularly how he played last week. I’m going for the upset and taking the Saints by a field goal.

Jacksonville Jaguars versus Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are a 7.5-point favorite over the Jaguars and are “burning hot” status versus “average down”. Pittsburgh holds a 4-point advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, however the Jaguars won as a road underdog, 30-9 on October 8. Jacksonville has the top defense in the league, so they are likely to stay in the game. While the Steelers are my pick to prevail, the Jaguars could very well cover the spread.

Tennessee Titans versus New England Patriots

In what appears to be the most lopsided game this weekend, the Patriots are 13.5-point favorites over the Titans. New England s “burning hot” versus “average” for Tennessee. The Patriots are also ranked significantly higher on the Power Ranking Indicator, +28 to +18, and are tied for fifth in Team Volatility. There is very little chance for the Titans to win, let alone cover the spread. New England is nearly a lock in this one.
