NFL futures: New England Patriots and Tom Brady lead the way

The 2017 NFL regular season is well over the halfway mark. Odds makers have updated the odds for this season’s Super Bowl winner and the favorite to win the NFL MVP. So far, things look great for the New England Patriots and Tom Brady; but are both the Pats and Brady worth a wager?

NFL futures: Super Bowl betting

Despite the Philadelphia Eagles having the best record in the NFL, the Eagles are behind New England in the current Super Bowl futures odds. The Patriots sit at +250 to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Meanwhile, the Eagles are currently set at odds of +350.

The Patriots started the season in terrible shape. New England lost its season opener to Kansas City, 42-27. Although the Patriots won their next two games, the team’s defense continued to give up big scorelines. A week 4 loss to the Carolina Panthers left New England at 2-2.

Since then, New England has been the best team in the AFC. The team has won seven straight and the defense has improved greatly. In the Patriots’ last seven games, the team has given up 17 or fewer points to its opponents.

Philadelphia owns the best record in the NFL at 10-1. The team’s only loss came at the hands of the Chiefs in week 2. Quarterback Carson Wentz has been unreal this season. Wentz hasn’t thrown an interception since week 8 against San Francisco. Meanwhile, he has tossed nine touchdown passes in the Eagles’ last three games.

Perhaps one of the best Super Bowl futures bets is on the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are 8-3 and atop the NFC West. Los Angeles is fourth in total offense with 379 yards per game. The Rams are also second in scoring per game (29.9). The team’s defense has been solid despite the offense overshadowing it. The Rams defense is ranked seventh in the NFL in points allowed per game (18.7), and sixth in sacks with 31.

NFL MVP futures

Just as the New England Patriots sit atop the NFL Super Bowl futures, the team’s quarterback is the front runner for the league’s MVP trophy.

Brady is having yet another career year. He has thrown 26 touchdowns opposed to three interceptions. Five times this season, Brady has thrown three or more touchdowns in a game. The Patriots quarterback is -150 to win the MVP.

Brady’s nearest rival for the award is Philadelphia quarterback Wentz. The Eagles’ main man has thrown 28 touchdowns and five picks. Yet, the biggest difference is the Eagles’ performance this season. Philadelphia is the best team in the league, but so far, odds makers aren’t convinced Wentz should win the trophy.
