NBA Predictions November 30: Can Portland take down Denver to end skid?

As the month of November comes to a close, the NBA has several interesting match ups in store. The Western Conference is extremely tight a quarter of the way through the season. Can Portland rebound from a three-game slide to take down Denver? That game and others will be examined. Note that all information is for games played through November 26.

Washington Wizards versus Philadelphia 76ers

Washington is ninth in the Eastern Conference, while Philadelphia is third and are 10-1 at home. The 76ers enter with a +25 to +13 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams have split the last six meetings. Philadelphia is very consistently winning as favorites and losing as underdogs, ranked very high on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Being a favorite and playing so well at home, the 76ers are very likely to not only win, but cover the spread.

Houston Rockets versus San Antonio Spurs

After finishing at the top of the Western Conference last season, the Rockets are near the bottom with a 9-10 start this season. Despite their shaky season to this point, they hold a +26 to +12 advantage over the 10-10 Spurs on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams have split the last four meetings. In terms of stability, the Spurs are the most stable at +5 to -1 for the Rockets on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Spurs have been a solid 6-3 at home and I look for them to win this in a tight game decided late.

Dallas Mavericks versus Los Angeles Lakers

Dallas has won seven of their last ten and are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Lakers are also 7-3 during that stretch, but are coming off a loss. Los Angeles has a +16 to +6 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and have won the last three between these teams. Both teams rank high in stability, so the favorite/underdog status is important to note in this one. Dallas is a woeful 1-7 on the road and that trend is likely to continue. I look for the Lakers to  pull away in the second half and win rather easily.

Denver Nuggets versus Portland Trailblazers

Teams are heading in opposite directions in this match up. The Nuggets have won their last three and are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. On the flip side, Portland has dropped their last three and are “ice cold down”. Denver has a +22 to +19 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and have won the last three meetings between the teams. Portland is 7-3 at home but they are in some disarray as of late. Going with the hot hand, I look for Denver to edge Portland.

Utah Jazz versus Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte is sitting in seventh in the Eastern Conference and are 5-5 over their last ten. The Jazz are 9-12 and 4-6 over their last ten. Despite the Hornets better record, the Jazz have a +20 to +6 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and are trending upward, albeit “ice cold up”. The teams split the last six meetings covering the last few seasons. Utah is a very solid 7-6 on the road and Charlotte has been tough at home, winning seven of ten. In what is a toss up game, I would go with the Hornets to narrowly come away with a win. Having said that, it wouldn’t be surprising for the Jazz to pull of a road upset.
