NBA Predictions March 15: Philadelphia looks to take hold of third seed in East

The NBA season has reached the home stretch at teams jockey for playoff positioning. A key game is the Kings versus 76ers as Philadelphia tries to maintain third seed in the Eastern Conference. Four other games will be examined. Note that all information is for games played through March 12.

Sacramento Kings versus Philadelphia 76ers

Sacramento enters with the ninth seed in the Western Conference and are 13-19 on the road. Philadelphia is third in the Eastern Conference and are 27-9 at home. The 76ers have a +25 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and are “burning hot” against “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are among the most stable in the league, according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. If considering betting on the over/under, both teams have been trending other according to the Totals Predictor. Best bet is for the under on this one. Philadelphia will be the favorite at home and are clearly the better team at this point. Go for the 76ers to win and cover.

Portland Trailblazers versus New Orleans Pelicans

Portland heads for New Orleans having won both meetings between the teams this season. They are fifth in the Western Conference, but just 15-17 on the road. New Orleans is 18-15 at home but out of the playoff race. Both teams are “over” on the Totals Predictor, so bet on the “over”. Portland has a +16 to +8 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  New Orleans has little to play for and it will show in this one. Portland will win and cover.

New York Knicks versus San Antonio Spurs

The Knicks have the worst record in the Eastern Conference, but won the first meeting between the teams. They are just 7-29 on the road, while the Spurs are 26-7 at home and sixth in the Western Conference. San Antonio has a +22 to 0 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “dead” status. According to the Totals Predictor, betting the “under” is very safe. As for the outcome of the game, the Spurs should win easily and cover the spread.

Los Angeles Lakers versus Detroit Pistons

Los Angeles continues their tailspin and are 13-20 on the road and 11th in the Western Conference. Detroit is seventh in the Eastern Conference and 21-13 at home. Los Angeles won the first meeting between the teams, but are only +3 compared to +22 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “dead up” versus “burning hot down” status. The Lakers are performing “under”, while the Pistons are “over”, so best to avoid betting on the over/under in this one. Detroit is among the most stable teams in the league and will be home favorite. Look for the Pistons to win this one rather easily.

Milwaukee Bucks versus Miami Heat

The Bucks enter with the best record in the NBA and are 24-12 on the road. Miami looks to hold on to a playoff spot and are 15-19 at home. The teams split the two meeting between them this season and are both trending “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Milwaukee is near the top in stability according to the Team Volatility Oscillator and hold a +27 to +18 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams are scoring at a high pace, so bet on the “over” in this one. Miami will put up a fight for some time, but the Bucks will be victorious.
