MLB Predictions: June 15 – 17

Over half of the 30 MLB teams have a winning record over 40 percent through the regular season. Here’s some of what’s in store for the weekend of June 15 – 17.

Minnesota Twins versus Cleveland Indians

In this AL Central battle, the first place Indians host the third place Twins. Cleveland holds a +22 to +5 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Minnesota is the 10th most unstable team according to the Team Strength Oscillator. Only two of the six scheduled starters this weekend are in the green on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator, Kyle Gibson on Friday (+647) for the Twins and Adam Plutko on Sunday (+212) for the Indians. The middle game is a toss-up in terms of profit with Fernando Romero going against Carlos Carrasco. I see the Indians taking two of three to maintain a comfortable cushion in the division.

Colorado Rockies versus Texas Rangers

This match up features the last place Rangers versus the Rockies, who are hovering around .500.  Colorado is the most unstable team in the league, so betting on their favorite/underdog status is not the best move. The Rockies hold a +10 to +4 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and both teams are “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Chad Bettis holds a huge advantage on the mound Friday with a +1495 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. Similarly, Bartolo Colon is a great bet at +1853 for the Rangers on Sunday. Kyle Freeland should have the best of Matt Moore on Saturday. All told, the Rockies will take the series two games to one.

Philadelphia Phillies versus Milwaukee Brewers

The Phillies continue to scuffle after a hot start, while the Brewers are 4-6 over their last ten and second in the NL Central.  Milwaukee holds a +20 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both steams struggling, the Brewers are “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus “dead” for the Phillies. Jake Arrieta (+862) is a better bet on Friday compared to Milwaukee’s Brent Suter. On the flip side, Junior Guerra is a much more profitable bet on Saturday than the Philles’ Zach Eflin. Although both Aaron Nola and Chase Anderson are in the red in terms of profit, Nola is having a considerably better season. Going out on a limb a bit and picking the Phillies to take two.

Chicago Cubs versus St. Louis Cardinals

The Cubs and Cardinals are part of a three-team battle in the NL Central. The Cubs hold a +25 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  All three St. Louis starters this weekend are good bets, with Carlos Martinez and Michael Wacha holding decided advantages in their match ups. On Sunday, Jack Flaherty is marginally profitable, but a much more solid bet than Jose Quintana for the Cubs are -413. The Cardinals will take two of three to tighten the race in the division.

New York Mets versus Arizona Diamondbacks

This match up features two teams heading in opposite directions. The Mets have lost 8 of their last 10 and are “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Arizona is 8-2 over their last ten, are +26 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot”.  Both teams are in the bottom ten in Team Volatility. On the mounds, Seth Lugo and Zack Godley face off Friday and both have been excellent bets. That game is a toss-up. Jason Vargas holds a +1429 to +692 edge over Patrick Corbin in Saturday’s game, while both Zack Wheeler and Clay Buchholz have been poor bets in the finale. The Mets break out of their skid an take two of three.

San Francisco Giants versus Los Angeles Dodgers

In the extremely tight NL West, this series could be the best of the weekend, in terms of position in the division. Los Angeles has a slim +17 to +16 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams have taken seven of their last ten games. Both teams rank among the league’s most unstable, so don’t take much look at their favorite or underdog status. Los Angeles is undecided as to who will pitch this weekend. The Giants have two very good bets on the mound this weekend in Derek Holland and Chris Stratton, bot above +1000. Madison Bumgarner goes on Saturday and he has been a mediocre bet. I think the Giants have a slight advantage, despite being on the road. I look for two wins this weekend from San Francisco.
