MLB Predictions April 26-28: Pirates versus Dodgers highlight weekend match ups

The Major League Baseball season is nearly one month in and the races are already heating up. The featured series this weekend is the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers. Three other series will be examined.

Pittsburgh Pirates versus Los Angeles Dodgers

Both teams come in first in their respective divisions. The Pirates are +29 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot down” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Dodgers are +26 and “burning hot”. Chris Archer, Joe Musgrove and Trevor Williams are scheduled to start on the mound for the Pirates, while Hyun-Jin Ryu, Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill are set to pitch for the Dodgers. Williams is the best bet for the Piriates according to the Pitcher Profit Oscillator at +909, while Archer is the worst at -2393. All three scheduled Dodgers’ starters are profitable, with Kershaw topping out at +1084.  Both teams are playing games that are trending “under” on the “over/under”, so the “under” is a safe bet. As for the outcome of the series, give the Dodgers the advantage at home and should win two of the three, the Pirates winning the last to avoid a sweep.

Chicago Cubs versus Arizona Diamondbacks

The Cubs are 4th in the NL Central, while the Diamondbacks are third in the NL West. The Diamondbacks have won two of the three meetings between the teams so far this season and have a +18 to +15 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Cubs are “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have been playing games that are trending well “under”, so that is the best bet for the “over/under”. Only Kyle Hendricks of the three scheduled Chicago starters has been profitable, while Robbie Ray is the only scheduled Arizona starter in the red. They face each other on Friday, so a bet on the Cubs is a wise choice in that one. For the rest of the weekend, the Diamondbacks have the edge on the mound and playing at home, should prevail. Pick the Diamondbacks to win two of three.

Oakland A’s versus Toronto Blue Jays

The A’s are 4th in the AL West and the Blue Jays are third in the AL East. Toronto is +16 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the A’s are +8 and “ice cold up”, respectively. Both teams have been part of games that are trending well “over” on the “over/under”, so place your bets on the “over”. Mike Fiers will start for the A’s on Friday and is +1578 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator versus Marcus Stromen and -1221 for the Blue Jays. The A’s are a strong bet for the opener.  Aaron Sanchez is profitable for the Blue Jays on Saturday, while Brett Anderson for the A’s is well in the red. Neither starter on Sunday has been a good bet, making that a toss-up. Look for the teams to split the first two and either team could come away with a 2-1 series win.  The Blue Jays have won all three meetings so far this season between the teams.

New York Yankees versus San Francisco Giants

The teams are meeting for the first time since 2016.  The Yankees are 2nd in the AL East and the Giants are struggling, last in the NL West. The Yankees have a +20 to 0 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator at “burning hot” versus “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. If betting the “over/under”, the safe bet is “under” as both teams are trending well below the “over/under” line. Of the six scheduled starters this weekend, only JA Happ of the Yankees and Derek Holland for the Giants are profitable and they face each other on Saturday. There isn’t much, if any edge, on the mound. The Yankees are the better team and have the more dominant offense. They will win and possible could sweep the series.
