The tournament’s favorites, Brazil, head to Russia in search of its first World Cup trophy since 2002. The team has one of the best squads in Russia, and the country will have one of the world’s best players, Neymar, in the side.

Reigning champions Germany go into the tournament as the second favorites. However, there are questions around the team’s fitness and ability to win the tournament for the second time in as many tournaments.

No reigning World Cup Champion has repeated as tournament winner in the following World Cup since Brazil in 1958 an 1962.

The last two tournaments haven’t been kind to reigning champions. In 2010, reigning World Cup champions Italy was eliminated at the group stage. Four years later, Spain was dumped out of the tournament at the same point. Will Germany be victims of its previous success? Joachim Low’s team is in the most difficult group, so don’t expect the Germans to get through the group unscathed.

The playoff simulator does make some predictions that are difficult to understand. However, Spain being chosen as the winner is a great choice and one that many bettors will be overlooking this summer in Brazil.
